From rags to riches as the saying goes. I think from an early age she was very aware of the limited choices of her current living circumstances. She had a certain quality within herself and a determination about her to make it in the world, especially back in those days with her family routes living in doomed poverty. It is not the easiest task to climb the ladder of financial prosperity, but she found her own way in life to manage. loved the story and really admire her, and ability to take all in her difficult stride.

There is a Barbara Cartland romance novel called "The Pretty Horse-Breakers" that refers to Skittles, and her famous tailors, and other details of the time. Great read if you like historical romance.

I enjoyed the tale very much although I couldn't help but feel a bit sad for her. I couldn't imagine life with out my kids.
