This story brings to mind a story my grandmother told me about her grandmother who at 19 was married to a man that was in his 50s. She cried and cried on her wedding day because she was afraid he would be too old to give her children.She ended up having 10 children and a very long and happy marriage. He was in his 90s when he passed peacefully and left her a very well off widow.❤

(2:17:23) I am really liking this book so far... and let me tell you, I kinda hate regency type books lately - so, yeah, that's saying a lot about this book! lol In fact - it's over 2 hours and I've been so engrossed I haven't even commented! lol So, dang! this book is really good - lol but, I'm gunna be so mad - spoiler - if she hooks up with that stupid guy that takes care of the horses - lol... But doesn't that make this so much more interesting - with that possibility hanging in the air!!! lol (7:01:28) This is turning into such a deeply emotional and tender story. I am loving every moment! There is so much thought and depth that is rare in these YT audiobooks, this has turned into such a pleasant surprise. I am so glad I accidentally clicked on it :) Oh what a sweet sweet book! So well thought out and crafted into a captivating and interesting story - really worth the listen.

I'm half way through listening and so far am enjoying the story. The only thing that grates is that there are so many Americanisms in it. It's a shame as a few changes would really make a difference. We say Autumn not fall, foyer or hallway not entryway, there are a few others but I have to say that on the whole it's still an enjoyable tale.
@JennieGoutet

I know. This is one of my earlier books and with each one I try to become more anglicised. But not even my early British readers catch all of the americanisms. And once it's on audiobook, it's too late to change. I'm working on this though.

I don’t believe postponing consummation is wise in arranged marriage or otherwise except due to illness or such. It creates a lot of unnecessary tension as it is something that must happen sooner or later. If there’s anything I learned from books and those around me is that communication is VERY important. Also, pride will not sustain marriage. Be vulnerable, honest & do not let misunderstandings and issues fester.

I get that this type of love stories require a somewhat unpleasant life before in order to make the "after" life seem nicer by comparison. but the start of this ( horrible brother/sister-in-law and husband who cares little for her at the beginning) borders on abuse. Yeah, it may be historically accurate, but come one PS: (2h in) please, please, don't turn "that" servant into a sex offender or smth similar....

Hi Jean, "black mood" is an expression that dates to the 1600s and is related to shadow and death rather than race (if that was your objection). I appreciate your comment, though, as it allows me to reexamine my choice of words (although I would probably continue to use this expression for the reasons mentioned). I have made changes in the past if I discovered an offensive underlying meaning I was not aware of.

I know the word clean is used for this kind of Regency romance I hope that we will see an alteration in first that intimacy is on cleaning their certain aspects that could mean that and yet I don’t really feel that reading an intimate seen in a proprius standard is a clean never thought we might use an expression like tap it tap it regency means we’re not going to have open door intimacy is open door is another term that could be used because if we use the word clean and I do like this pattern of books I’ve been reading them I’m in age lady but I have read other kinds of intimacyIt’s a highly favored form for me though if we use a Termanology that doesn’t bespoke a judgment of those who write otherwise we leave the door open for people to feel appropriate and their way of communicating their words
