Rubinstein, Cortot, Lipatti--absolutely. But Arrau would be on my list as well. In my youth, the Chopin lps on Vox by the Brazilian pianist Guiomar Novaes were ubiquitous and respected. (Vox was a budget line but with an amazing catalog of performers.)

Dinu Lipatti is my personal favourite. He was the least self-serving of pianists.

Vladimir Horowitz. But Horowitz is better in Rachmaninoff.

“Better”? There is no “better” among such giants, imho. The older I get the less I use “best” or “better”…..just enjoy all the greats, and have a “favorite”!
