Finding two kids rubbing noses as sexual says more about the ones perceiving it that way than the creators of the game and those who enjoy the game. An Eskimo kiss is the term used for rubbing noses. Mostly, it's loosely based on the Inuit tradition of something called a kunik. It's a form of affection for family members and close loved ones. Inherently - non sexual. And just a fun form of affection for someone else.

All those journalists calling the game perverted were telling on themselves.
@connerhansen2947
Күн бұрын
Aside from explicitly featuring the sexual abuse of a minor, the game has a very obvious BDSM motif. Those things are fine if they're handled appropriately (it seems like they were) but it's not like the journalists fabricated the existence of sexual themes in the game. Inciting a moral panic is always an incredibly scummy thing to do, mind you, but I don't think it's fair to imply that the journalists are pedos. Just vultures.

The game shows themes of SA of children so they are really telling on themselves in my opinion. Who the fuck sees two primary school girls rubbing their noses together and see "erothic themes" there?
@Chaosqueenngami
Күн бұрын
@@connerhansen2947 I agree about the sexual themes in the game but the context some of the journalists were using was gross. Media can include sexual themes but not be considered sexy. It can be used to discomfort or horrify, which is what Rule of Rose was going for. Some weirdos looked at the game and said this is going to turn people on, which is concerning if someone can see what happens in the game and come away with that interpretation.

What hell? This game was tame compared to some of the other stuff out there. Dark and twisted, yes, but nothing pitch fork and torches worthy. Gaming journalists just love stirring up shit for no reason and most of the time they don't even play video games themselves, but they know how certain sects of society feel about gaming and they play on that aspect.

Considering the events in the game are kind of like a dream, I don't think it's that strange (in hind sight) that Jennifer faints so much. I mean, in my experience dream events cut in and out all the time, the 'fainting' is probably like the brain trying to come up with a new scene from her tattered memories. P.S. I LOVE Fatal Frame! The lore in the series is so deep and intense that I always wished I could find a deep-dive story summary for any one game, let alone the entire series. I look forward to new content!
@DragonGamer0713

I totally agree with your statement. As much as the fainting becomes a meme at best and annoying at worst, it does explain the "and then THIS happens!" moments within dreams. I mean, as someone who's tried to explain my wacky dreams to my boyfriend several times before, I'm like..."I remember the my random baby being able to project his coo's and babbles into my brain and me understanding him like he was speaking English...but where did the random MMO battle come from or HOW did I get there and become so OP in the first place?!" Boyfriend is like, "Babe, why do you remember these?" One of them is actually becoming a book series, so shush~ hehe!

This game was one of the first games I felt compelled to finish for the story and because I found it relatable to my experience of leaving and then returning to an elementary school. The hierarchy and trying to regain favor because kids came up with all sorts of rumors about why you moved and left them so you deal with bullying. Even from an ex best friend. Glad I still have it and the soundtrack.

I remember when I saw this in a shop and got curious at the peculiar cover, back when that was a thing. No swords, no sorcery, no dragons, no dungeons--just a flowers and little girls, and the outline was something unheard to me. I judged it as a "horror" game and left it, because I suck at horror games. Had I discovered this when I was older, and if it didn't handle like crap, I probably would've played it. I actually find violent video games quite therapeutic; they help me deal with my anger in a controlled and safe manner. Anger caused by others constantly trying to think for me and tell me what I'm supposed to find acceptable. Caused by the world rotting around me, thanks to the same brand of people running it into the ground as they pretend they're saving it. Censorship is evil; and I'm thankful that despite living in a religious country, there was never any enforcement body for video games.

I feel like Lord of the Flies comes to mind when I think of this game, maybe not in a sense of sexual abuse, but certainly in a sense that innocence is lost and about the dangers that await when children are left to their own devices and not given proper guidance (or none at all) from adults.

An argument could also be made for a comparison between Brown and the conch shell: non-human but very important to the characters, and destroyed during a moment of unbridled anger that marked an inability to thematically and emotionally go back. Or maybe Brown and Piggy. Anyways: yes, lots of parallels between the two.

this is one of the examples of game reviews that is not taken seriously and the journalist did not even consider playing the game first. Honestly, journalists should not be allowed to review games coz they do not really take time to play the game to give some serious honest article, it even costs the jobs of the devs who created the game. Did more damage than help, should've sued the journalist as well.

Still one of my favorite games from the Ps2 era. Despite the combat controls being a struggle, I always loved the mysteries and the dream logic of the game. I always chalked up the clunky controls to Jennifer being a scared and frail school girl, so I figured it added a layer to her character that she wasn't some master of clobbering things. If there were a remake, I would love this game to get its due. So much beauty lost to controversy and lies.

Kermit Flappy Hands for the video too!!! Ah yes! Max Payne Mythical Pull. Apparently I’ve got a lot to say: those girls doing nose kisses is so normal to me. It’s what I did with my siblings and even good friends! I think some people don’t know how children interact sometimes, and then they overreact. I have more to say, sorry guys: so I think that this game got the treatment that that old game got. The one where it’s a man and he’s a “serial k1ller”, and he has to take out people that the voices tell him. And people IRL said that it would make people violent. I think this game got the same treatment, which is wrong. Video games don’t mimic reality, just like books don’t. It’s a fantastical experience that can be troubling, but also eye opening. I hope it makes sense what I typed, I get very invested in things like this.

34:23 was there evidence Jennifer was part of the aristocrat society before she had found Brown? I always assumed that her finding Brown and Wendy's jealously lead Wendy to start the society in the first place. Otherwise I would think there would have been evidence Jennifer was 'higher' in the ranking at some point before being lowered. It seemed to indicate that Jennifer was always at the bottom from the get go. I also wonder if Jennifer ever knew Wendy was at the head of the society until they murdered Brown? I wonder this, as we aren't shown Wendy leading the group till near the end of the game, and if she was present during the previous events in the past when they were happening, I think Jennifer would have incorporated that. Or could just be for a dramatic reveal, who knows. I also thought Stray Dog was stories that Wendy spread to make the kids hate Brown and Jennifer by association. The timeline of events in the past are all sorts of jumbled in this game, which I guess in retrospect is kind of the point.

Its themes have always been real and are the reasons why they draw controversy towards this game. Bullying,abuse,rape, repressed memories, PTSD,emotional traumas etc. All these are timeless and happen even in the adult world as well. To make these themes be known and visible that they too happen in the world of children causes some people unwilling to touch and talk on these things.
