It's a disgrace that our government continues to allow energy companies to price gouge in a time of crisis, or at any time. You cannot claim a shortage and energy crisis when making record profits. Rather than using tax payers money to supplement the bills, they should be passing legislation to forbid and fine price gouging. But enough of them have vested interests in those companies so will never pull the trigger. People are going to die, and many more will continue to suffer for their greed and indifference.

This is the product of 40 years of neoliberalism and "shareholder primacy." Thatcher started the neoliberal ball rolling by slashing taxes on the richest and "shrinking the state" by cutting budgets and stopping social house building, Blair just watched the ball roll and Cameron/Johnson/Truss/Sunak have all sped it up. Shareholder primacy is how every major corporation now functions, meaning that CEOs are doing everything they can to spend as little as possible on staff's wages while buying back their own shares to increase their value and sending as much as possible in dividends to shareholders. It's these ideas that have done the damage to this country (and others) and if they're not rejected and discarded things will continue to get worse.

Changing workforce due to technology: top paid technical jobs, doesn't benefit human beings, mentally stressful, physically non movement, meaningless to human life, leading many to ill health. work culture is 24/7, reducing hours will enable humans to re-energise with their families, life is dull due to government policy and food marketing adverts. A balance is what is needed. maintaining a family home whilst absent is impossible, maintaining the costs of working is expensive. We've only got so much energy in a day, and we cannot keep it up for the policy makers and businesses who want coverage of 24/7, and yet they no longer plough their profits back into the local communities to benefit all age ranges. Technological changes to entertainment: Expensive screen based subscriptions, technology uses more energy, more phsically inactive human engagement", the decline of physical opportunities, to have fun as a human beings free in our local communities, to rewind, relax, re-energise with human to human contact, purely to enjoy life, dancing, acting, music, without an "economic" cost factor built in at every turn, is driving addiction to our screens. We are humans, not statistics, not machines. Lets devolve humans and businesses back to families and community, where more face to face human jobs be encouraged.

I fully empathise with the heat or eat statement. However it is very political. 1. Central gov programs to insulate homes have been available for years. Why haven't the councils done something about it? Why are local councils not getting more flask here? Central gov cannot be blamed here, HAs or council housing departments are squarely to blame here. Councils have funding pots for capital works (ie. Insulating homes, low energy/carbon heating, even community energy storage ) This problem is local! Get onto your local council, make local changes. Educate your neighbours. Support local councillors that want to change. This message is directed at the a part of the system that has changed, and do support insulation, green homes grants, higher windfall taxes. This video should aim at locals, counties, not central!

One can say that it will pay for itself in the long run, but is one to go without food for months so as to purchase the insulation?
