For the life of me, I'll never understand how someone could ever listen to this song and not like it. Today's "country" could never touch the beauty and passion captured in Bluegrass...

I first saw the Country Gents at a club called "The Shamrock" in Georgetown in DC back in the late 60's. They were sort of the house band (50 cent cover charge at the door.) Doyle Lawson and Jimmy Goudreau were among the guys in the band at the time. But the real star was Charlie Waller. Followed them after and even hired them for a gig at a college in Kentucky in the mid 70's. Fast forward to 1994 and saw them once again at the Birchmere in Alexandria. Though Charlie was dealing with an illness at the time and had to sit while singing and playing, his voice was as powerful and clear as it was back in the day at the Shamrock. Sadly, he died a few weeks after that show. Regardless of how many songs that "charted" over his career the Country Gents was a seminal band in modern bluegrass and Charlie Waller was the best.

They were considered 'bluegrass,' which is 'niche' music, much like jazz, or various genres of gospel. If you're fan, you know better. Charlie Waller, John Starling & John Duffey are artists who deserved far more acclaim than they will ever get on this mortal coil. It is said that bluegrass artists never get rich...unless you count awe & respect for their outstanding talent.

The waltz of the angels, I hear each time I hold you tightly, in these arms of mine 'Tis surely from heaven, this music I hear When your lips say "I love you," in waltz time my dear There must be a power, much higher than mine A writer of love songs, way up in the sky The maker of roses, of love sweet and true And the waltz of the angels, the moonlight and you Oh, hurry my darling, to my waiting arms I'll love you forever, and keep you from harm They say love is endless, our hearts have been kissed By the waltz of the angels, and far beyond this There must be a power, much higher than mine A writer of love songs, way up in the sky The maker of roses, of love sweet and true And the waltz of the angels, the moonlight and you

One of my all time favorite songs by one of my all time favorite lead singers and groups. I wish I had remembered this song for my wedding. Typically, live audio creates a recording difficulty, so I wish the studio version were also on u tube. These skilled professionals maintain correct distance from mikes for balanced volume, but because of proximity effect considerations, the lead is based out while back up vocals are too sharp. Good to have video though...Thanks

can that message flashed on the screen be correct? it's hard to believe that the gent only charted one billboard recording during their long career. they were so good and with so many great members. i can think of at least three that i thought would have charted. charted songs or not, they were a great influential bluegrass band.

My grandfather originally wrote this song for my grandma. My grandpa used to have a country western band and he had been playing this song in his set list for a while in Texas and New Mexico, when Dick Reynolds (the guy credited for writing it) saw him play it one night and stole the song from him and started claiming he and Jack Rhodes wrote it and gave it to great artists to cover and make money off of it. It's a beautiful song, no doubt. Just wish my grandpa was given the credit he deserved. He was an amazing musician and could play the hell out of a fiddle. Just felt like I needed to say that.
