In north-central Vermont is a very bizarre site...the remnants of what was the country's largest asbestos mine. Asbestos was mined here commercially for almost 100 years.
When you get within miles of Lowell or Eden you can see the large trailing piles of rock several hundred feet high. As you get closer to the mine entrance in Eden the scale of the piles become even more astonishing. There's nothing else like it in New England and not a place you would easily forget.
