In my little opinion this song is magical. I also believe that, in spite of the bad things that happened in the 1960's it was a utopian time in our history. I guess things today seem so diabolical. All I have left is nostalgic adoration for The Cowsills, The Beatles and so many other creative entities of the past. Remember, nothing lasts forever but this song and those Cowsill kids will last me for the rest of my life... no matter what's around the next corner, I can always Love The Flower Girl... in my mind..

The Cowsills are an American singing group from Newport, Rhode Island, six siblings noted for performing professionally and singing harmonies at an early age, later with their mother. The band was formed in early 1965 by brothers Bill, Bob, and Barry Cowsill; their brother John joined shortly thereafter. Originally Bill and Bob played guitar and Barry played the drums. When John learned to play drums and joined the band, Barry began playing bass. After their initial success, the brothers were joined by their siblings Susan and Paul along with their mother, Barbara. A seventh sibling, Bob's fraternal twin brother Richard, was never part of the band during its heyday, although he occasionally appeared with them in later years.

Many years ago John was staying at a hotel I worked at in Boston and, as he was checking out, he looked at my name tag and told me that he liked my name and was using it as his alias at their next hotel. I knew who he was and told him that it was fine, as long as he didn’t end up in the newspapers for doing something bad under my name. He laughed and promised me he wouldn’t. He kept that promise from 2002 and beyond. Pure class and the inspiration for Keith Partridge in “The Partridge Family” a few years later, as I would watch in reruns in the ‘70s and early ‘80s after school.

This is such a wonderful composition both musically and lyrically. The senario it describes its simple and yet rejoiceful. To many of us raining, is an ocation to happiness by it self. The songwriter is a sensitive person, for not only the girl makes him happy...it's spring....probably... there is "flowers evrywhere." He notice she was "sitting in the rain" and she didin't care. To me the music is got a happy rhithem, and sounds..the piano is used in it like in many movies; to signalize a "magical action." I was born here in Mexico and didin't speek english until i was about 17; so i beigind my awakinig to "love" a bit erlier then 17...music in spanish romantic "balads" above all, caugth my attention...I just can imagine the magic this song give to american teens back in those days!

I saw her sitting in the rain Raindrops falling on her She didn't seem to care She sat there and smiled at me Then I knew (I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew) She could make me happy (happy, happy, she could make me very happy) Flowers in her hair Flowers everywhere (everywehre) Oh I don't know just why, she simply caught my eye (I love the flower girl) She seemed so sweet and kind, she crept into my mind (To my mind, to my mind) I knew I had to say hello (hello, hello) She smiled up at me And she took my hand And we walked through the park alone And I knew (I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew) She had made me happy (happy, happy, she had made me very happy) Flowers in her hair Flowers everywhere Oh, I don't know just why, she simply caught my eye (I love the flower girl) She seemed so sweet and kind, she crept into my mind (To my mind, to my mind) Suddenly, the sun broke through (see the sun) I turned around, she was gone (Where did she go?) And all I had left was one little flower in my hand But I knew (I knew, I knew, I knew, I knew) She had made me happy (happy, happy, she had made me very happy) Flowers in her hair Flowers everywhere Was she reality or just a dream to me? (I love the flower girl) Her love showed me the way to find a sunny day (Sunny day, sunny day) Was she reality or just a dream to me? (I love the flower girl)

@jerry Williams The lead vocal by the late, great Bill Cowsill is what makes this song so magical. His amazing voice was THE key ingredient that elevated the band and gives one chills when they hear this song. After their dirtbag father fired Bill, this band never again sounded even remotely as superb as they had sounded when Bill was at the helm. Yes, his siblings could sing, but Bill Cowsill had a SOUND all his own. No one sounds like him. Furthermore, he was easily the Cowsill's finest songwriter and musician, and he CONTINUED to create superb music years later with incredible bands like The Blue Shadows. If you haven't heard of The Blue Shadows, then by all means check them out here on KZitem. Their music will knock your socks off! Bill was also a fine producer. After Bill was fired, none of his siblings could step into his shoes in any capacity, and the band dissolved in 1972, at which point they discovered the secret that Bud and Barbara had kept from their children: the parents has spent all the money the siblings had made.

I was only 7 when this song was on the radio every day. I loved it and it stuck in my head forever. I’m 61 now and I remember many songs from the 60’s because they were innocent, catchy, and just cheerful. I feel badly for kids today. It’s dismal to be young now.

Remember this time on hearing this time on Philly"s Famous 56 WFIL. I was 10 yr. old and just in the 5th grade , and this came out early 11/67 , and , unfortunately NAM was raging , with a relative kia there mid3/1968 tail end of TET , in Central Highlands , 10 days B- my Bday. Also , knew neighbors sons , and friends brothers sent there from 65-69 , last one returning late 71! But what a cool pop tune late 67 , and remembering going into PennyPack Park , clandestinlely smoking Marlborough cigarettes , and splitting a case of Schmidt's , or Bud, and some smoking mother nature's flower too ! There was the Monterey Pop Festival back on mid June 67 , and " Light My Fire" by the Doors , " If You're Going To San- Fransisco " ( I'm m sure flowers in your hair took a back step to smoking marijuana in your pipe, or roll ups), " Windy " by the Association , " Whiter Shade of Pale " Procol Harem , "Lazy Days " Spanky and Our Gang , "All you Need is Love , and "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds " by Beatles " "I Can See For Miles " by The Who., " "Everlasting Love ' by Robert McKnight ( or Knight ; Spelling off) and so many more mid- 2 late autumn 1967. What a time , and 67--68 was a cold , snowy winter 2!

I'm nearly 70 years old and this song is still magical. This came out when I fell in love with the most beautiful girl in my school and surprisingly, I believe she felt the same. I had no money or a car for her so we never dated but I have great memories and we talk to this day. And every time this song is played it is, indeed, magic. The Cowsills hit the nail on the head with this one.

Is it just me or is Billy singing different lyrics for some of the verses? He was a great rocker. Saw him in Vancouver, BC with Blue Northern some years ago. Nice guy and very personable.

Groups often lip synced, so maybe that is why it looked that way? I saw Billy perform with the Blue Shadows from Vancouver, he then moved to Calgary where he played with the Co-dependants. He was able to recover from addictions, but it had taken a toll and he died there at 58 years old. Very nice fellow.

This was way before my time (37) but I use to spend a ton of time with my grandparents when I was little going to car shows and all sorts of things. They are 80 and 81 now so this music was from their era, when they were in their prime, and it’s all we would listen when I was with them so I have a deep admiration of stuff from the 50’s and 60’s. Remember them playing this song, classic. 👍🏻
