"...or even if it's sitting outside..." Several years ago I was looking on Craigslist at Baldwin Hamiltons. Went to look at one (probably from the 1950s or 60s or so, maybe 70s I forget now) that a "piano teacher" was selling in west Alpine area. The place looked like it hadn't been very well taken care of, I'll say that much about it. The piano itself, at least musically, wasn't half bad - I've played better, and I've played worse. I ultimately ended up not buying it, though. It also did have a bit of a gash in the bottom cabinet where something had chewed it up, or something, I forget now. While we were looking at it, her (piano teacher's) husband said come outside and see this piano that we got to replace the piano we're selling. So we went outside (btw if I'm remembering right, it was a cloudy day at least, with possible rain either that day or plus/minus a day or two), and there under a piece of tarp was.... a Story & Clark **SPINET!** that was probably, at the newest, I'd guess from the 1940s. It was horrendously out of tune, and while I don't remember much else, I'm sure the action was absolute crap as well. I said earlier that I didn't buy that Hamilton, but I still to this day regret not telling them to keep the Hamilton and use the S&C to heat their house that winter.

Yeah, that advice about moving is so timely! I remember a gorgeous parlour grand piano (with six legs!) that I used to own. I had to give it up when I moved to another country. It was an exquisite instrument. A clarinettist with whom I played chamber music bought it. My heart sank when I saw it at his place. The instrument was flat on his floor, disassembled and seemingly without much change of being resassembled any time soon. The poor movers-battered piano's action was totally mucked up from whatever the amateur movers did to it. Hideous!
