My daddy used to sing this to me when I was little. He couldn't carry a tune but he didnt care. This song came to me this morning and I told daddy that I love him too. He died at the age of 50 in 1982. Now I am an old woman and still miss my daddy.. He was from the coalmines of southwestern Virginia. All of the greats would come through the coal mining towns so he saw most of them. The Carter sisters, Hank Williams Ralph Stanly lived in Clintwood Virginia, Flat and Scruggs and many more.

Pig in a Pen is another similarly light hearted tune, and Don Reno’s version of Grandpa’s Clock too all great for. I love to pick that one and kids go nuts when the we get to the TICK TOCK TICK TOCK. They jump around like little maniacs then you can see their little faces timing the Tick Tocks and laughing lol In fact for what was a Child’s song I just love Ron Reno’s version of Grandpa’s Clock. It’s a rollicking good bluegrass tune with a sweet little tale to it; especially with a bass player that can do the Slap bass breakdown well !
