Honestly, I think the storyline actually benefitted from not interacting with the Professor very much, since it kept them as an enigmatic figure who kept the player guessing what their deal was. In doing that, they made the punch with the reveal that much more impactful, since unless you paid REALLY close attention or were spoiled beforehand, you didn't know what you were getting into, and to some extent you still didn't even when going into battle. Honestly, if/when there is DLC, there are a few plot points and holes they need to fill (notably the implied "hexagonal shell" Pokemon that apparently powered Area Zero somehow) and also, maybe, give Arven a happier ending. Poor guy deserves it.

Anyone who didn't see BW Team Plasma "twist" coming from a mile away was probably either playing the game with their eyes closed or was a kid during that generation. Ghetsis being evil was almost painfully obvious. While you almost never speak to Turo or Sada to the point that you really don't know them or their personalities. So them being almost eerily robotic doesn't start to raise eyebrows until they literally glitch out in one of the bases right before it's revealed anyway. Even if you did suspect they were robots, I don't know anyone who would have predicted the originals being dead.

Both Sada and Turo are canon to both versions of the game. Depending which version you play, either Sada or Turo divorces the other and leaves Paldea region sometime after Arven is born. The professor who stays in Paldea gains full custody of Arven. They left because their ex became more unhinged and sunk into the time machine research as time went by. Arven lost his custodial parent and became an orphan when he was around 7-10 years old, 10 years prior to the game’s events.

Plus there were books inside the research stations that the OG professor took and in research station 4 the notes he took have a different vibe basically telling us that he went to far into his research and became somewhat crazy and obsessed. Professor Turo/Sada was definitely a professor but is not THE professor of this generation. It's actually headmaster Clavell because he's the one giving you your first Pokémon and sends you on your way. Even though the biology teacher made the pokedex app, you didn't get it from him personally but from Nemona and Clavell. You also usually meet your rival sometime when you interacted with the main professor and got your first Pokémon. In this case you meet Nemona while Clavell is around. In addition, every generation of Pokémon had the main professor be named after a plant of some sort I believe. In this generation, Clavell is the one to continue the tradition. Everyone else doesn't. Even though Turo and Sada were advertised as being the main professors in trailers and stuff, it was probably more of an attempt to confuse everyone on who the villain truly is, as all story paths featured characters with the potential of becoming the villain. However, all this doesn't change how awesome the fight against AI Turo/Sada was. The music was a banger too.

I've noticed that the latest Odd numbered generations have good stories compared to the Even numbered generations.

The fact Arven's team's level spikes so hard, the game is basically designed, like GF made this purposeful, to make the player finish the other two story paths to even have the levels to beat him without grinding ridiculously. It honestly makes sense because I doubt it would feel natural to open the lab, have the request, and have Arven ask who to invite when we would have no attachment to Nemona or knowledge of Penny in the first place

My boi Arven needs a hug! Such a shame he didn't get one... Other than that, I think the way the Professor interacted with us before the true ending was a very subtle forshadowing. It never really felt like they actually responded to us like we we're having a conversation. It always was just say what they had to say and maybe give us our next mission. Everything felt off and very scripted. I suspected earlier that maybe they just prerecorded messages, but then they did respond to questions. Also before I unlocked the final lock to the lab, when I was asked to do it I just noticed the journals of the Professor. I like how it's implied that this Professor is a clone at first, when in actuallity they're an AI. For the story as a whole, I understand now why so many people want voice acting. The Story is mega sweet! Easily one of my favourite Pokémon stories ever. Voice acting would've add a great new emotional layer to everything. (Though I didn't like how Penny and Arven insulted each other almost the whole time)

The story in Scarlet/Violet is my all time favorite. I've been waiting for a mainline Pokemon game to have this kind of story telling and didn't think it was possible after what we got in Sword/Shield and the Ultra Remakes. Black/White, Black/White 2, and the original Sun/Moon came close, but just didn't resonate as well for me.

What I find really interesting and what makes this possibly the final showdown of any other game in the series is the lack of an actual villain. Sure, you do fight something, but it's not a person. It's a program that's used to protect the time machine. The professor is long dead and all that remains are their ideals, which are carried by the opposing A.I. Also, unless I'm misremembering, didn't they say they could only stay operable so long as the crystals that made up the time machine remained within range? If so, that means Professor A.I probably stopped functioning after entering the rift or reaching the past/future. Maybe I'm missing something though.

Pokemon finally feels like it got the stakes right. The world-threatening villain was growing stale by Gen 3, though Gen 5 at least flipped the trope on its head by making N sympathetic. Gen 9 has no villain, but the world also isn't really threatened. Yeah, Paldea would get a bit more hectic if the paradox forms kept coming through, but it's the type of thing four kids and their pokemon could reasonably handle on their own. So it feels way more natural than when, in Gen 8, the villain suddenly goes nuclear and a 10-year-old for some reason is the world's only hope.

@@bradigan this is what I’ve looked for. The biggest issue about the Pokémon games is thinking about them a bit. “why is a child able to take on literal god” and whatnot. However here it’s honestly reasonable. Arven, Penny, and Nemona’s backgrounds are all ones that’d get them pretty far as trainers. The player is just the average prodigy. They are all strong but not “Take on the literal god of the sea” strong. And it shows, this isn’t a battle with a legendary against the big bad. This is a battle against a misled man’s will overpowering a machine. This is a battle against a normal Pokémon, just from the past or future. Paldea’s ecosystem’s at stake but that feels very reasonable as opposed to the time machine killing everything. People would honestly be willing to trust 4 prodigies here in the world of Pokémon.

@@TheLarryDungeon Exactly! I still think the story could have been a little better. I have problems with how Game Freak likes to limit every character to a single character trait. @@bradigan and the way the characters bounce off one another also helped remedy that a bit. When Penny tries comforting Arven it really felt like someone who’s less social trying their best to help. When Nemona wants to get everyone hyped it truly FEELS like she understands the pain, she feels it, and she wants to fix it her way. And Arven’s performance is great too I love how he just feels human to me. I pray to every god there is that this becomes the start of game freak actually trying to fix themselves. If they just learn from their mistakes for once they could make an amazing game with reasonable stakes. If they want outlandish gods then maybe make the trainer much older and whatnot.

After finishing Violet, and being an avid player of Pokemon Masters EX, I can already picture how DeNA is going to bring AI Turo and Sada into the mobile game. While they're in the future/past, they'll eventually get warped to Pasio via Hoopa's power and wonder if they've been sent to the future/past. But oh gosh, if Arven also makes it into Masters EX by that time, I can imagine how their interactions may play out. A very bittersweet moment, I'm sure.

Mabosstiff reminded me of my dog at this time last year. He wasn't well starting on the 23rd. But he was worse on Christmas Eve. I thought I was going to lose him. The vets were closed so I had no way of getting him help. He was weak, soiling himself, refusing to eat or drink. But, Christmas Day, it was like he suddenly started to regain his strength throughout the day. By the end of it, his energy was back up, he was eating and drinking on his own, he wasn't slipping off my bed, he was...basically back to normal. And I cried and hugged him so much in relief because the restless nights I'd had the days prior, just me patting him and trying to coax him to have a little water and sobbing the whole time he barely lifted his head really had me convinced I was losing him. He's still here and now he reminds me of Mabosstiff for another reason. They both have that toothy grin and big, sad eyes.

This is honestly the best writing Pokemon has ever seen. I say this because it's pure genius and most people haven't caught the depths of the foreshadowing yet. To briefly explain: There are hints throughout Area Zero that the Disk Legendary (the third one) can mess with people's minds. When the AI Professor got mind-controlled by the system...that was foreshadowing what happened to the REAL professor. This evil creature drove him mad so he would forget all about his kid and do what it wanted. The AI professor didn't have the insanity. That's why he still loved his son! And that's why I strongly believe that Sada and Turo are actually victims. They weren't bad people at all...
@jdx4527
Жыл бұрын
That's one way of putting it but I think it was because of the professors obsession with their research that drove them mad and what fot ghem killed! Who knows perhaps it was this secret third legendary and we'll probably get our answers in the DLC hopefully!
@azuroslazuli6948
11 ай бұрын
@@jdx4527 Like I said, the Third Legendary is what caused the obsession. How else do you explain the AI---a perfect copy of the professor's desires---feeling so different about what they did? I'll tell you why: It's because a robot can't go mad. Thus the AI shows who they really were without the madness. Nowhere is that clearer when they speak to Arven. "Look how big you've grown..."

I think my favorite pokemon climax is from black and white. The entire time you keep running into N, battling him every time hes basically your rival. He's just you but with another dream; a dream to liberate pokemon and help them. N has a unique trait where he can talk to pokemon. Everytime you battle him N hears your pokemon say they want to fight with you. This baffles N but he continues to fight for his dream. This dream comes closer when he awakens reshiram(or zekrom but I like his version of reshiram) and declares defeating the champion will allow him to reach his dream. You and the champion are the only hopes to stop him and you get the dark stone; to awaken zekrom and fight N as his equal. You make it to the end of your journey, fight the elite 4, and go off to fight the champion, when you walk up and see N talking to the champion( I got so confused I legitimately forgot we hadnt finished team plasma yet). You realise N has successfully defeated the champion and will now rule over all of unova, and YOU must stop him. You venture throughout Ns castle without fighting anyone. It's a battle only between you and him. But unfortunately, Zekrom still hasn't awoken. It seems your only choice is to fight N and reshiram all by yourself when suddenly your pokeballs start shaking out of rage, and the dark stone awakens. You are challenged by zekrom whom you catch to aid in your fight against N. This is the best fkn climax ever. You get to fight Ns dragon with your own dragon, wondering the entire time if N is in the right or not? You defeat N and he acknowledges you but then comes another final boss; GHETSIS. Ghetsis is the hardest boss I had ever fought while playing Pokemon. No matter what game I play, ghetsis to me is the hardest boss. Ghetsis calls N a human freak, saying he was just supposed to be a puppet king and he couldn't even do that right. You want to fight ghetsis just for insulting N but you realize Ghetsis will kill you if given the chance. Anyway you defeat him, ghetsis gets arrested or something, you have one last conversation with N and he departs on reshiram and credits roll. Thank you for coming to my ted talk
