They pushed their audience away before the show righted itself. I often hear "Star Trek burnout" get the blame, but it was more than that. While I can't speak for every Trek fan at the time, I couldn't stand the whole Temporal Cold War thing, including the Xindi conflict. Once they ended that running plot line, Enterprise got really good (finale excluded, of course). Unfortunately, it was already too late, and everybody had already tuned out.

I will always an huge fan of ENT, but after seeing DS9 and VOY I get why a lot of the previous fan were disappointed in the production, basically the writers were all too spent after have making almost continously 150 episode for series in over 10, so sadly in ENT they reused a lot of the plots already seen in the previous series, only the 4th season was different since the producer introduced a new writer who understood that ENT plot should have focused more in making a bridge between its era and TOS. I honestely feel bad on the actors who I am afraid got a lot of the blame for their precicament, thus It was totally put of their hands, honestely if I was the producer I would allow a season 5 to at least wrap up better all the loose end......thus compare to Discovery, Picard and even in my opinion Strange New World, Enterprise Is definetely made better with far more consistency and realism, you do feel in ENT that you are the first pioneer in outer space and Captain Archer is the first Pathfinder, in the others series either their Captain fell like a joke or too tired for their role, thus in all honestely Captain Lorca was interesting character, pity it was killed at the beginning of season 2 of Discovery.... For the finale episode of Enterprise.... well If the original episode would have been treated like Riker appearing but, the viewer never would have understood till the end that it was a simulation it could work out, heck they even could tell that Enterprise cook was in fact Riker great-Grandfather or something, but like they did portraited it as a "tour of Enterprise" not so much....thus I would have prefer if it was actually Robert Picardo, The Doctor instead of Riker, at least you get a double joke of a scene about the Doctor being an hologram himself so you get the feeling of you know the usual moral dilemma with the Doctor, "what is real?"... Thus admittely it is mostly because once I read one fandom art, which it play ther ENT ending with the Doctor, however at the end of the program, the Doctor while getting out of the holo-chamber, instead to find himself on his new work office on Julius Station, he find himself on a Julius Station that has been completely assimilated by the Borg, while he witness outside a massive battle between the Federation and the Borg with Voyager getting destroyed. However suddenly the scene disappear and turning around the Doctor seen Trip Tucker behind him!! It turn out that the scene that the Doctor witness was in fact an historical rapresentation of the Borg Invasion of 2381(a massive Borg Invasion in the Star Trek novels, that reshape the political power of the Alpha and Beta quadrant) that is about to happen in 11 months, Trip turn out did die in the 22nd Century, but Daniels recover soon after his body to resurrect him in the 31st Century to work as temporal agent and he has used the Doctor holo matrix to send him all the datas regarding the invasion as means to allow the Federation to preventive strike at the Borg Invasion force in its premise, therefore denying it from ever happeing in the first place. However the Doctor, despite been shocked, point out that Trip action will result in a temporal change therefore in violation of Temporal Prime Directive(VOY did in part cover this issue), but Trip reveal that he no longer work for Daniels, when he realized that in fact Daniels did not work to preserve the timeline, but to altered it in order to ensure a stronger Federation since Daniels work in fact for the 31st century version of the Section 31, which is convinced that the Borg Invasion of 2381 is needed to happen since the Federation will emerge stronger after the event, more militarized and organized before it and therefore better prepared to any potential future menace.... For the same reason Trip want to prevent it to happen since when he find out the truth about Section 31 Trip defected taking refuge in the 28th century where he is waging what he call a "temporal Guerrilia War" against Section 31, who he reveal allow the Xindi attack to happen in the first place since they manage to predict that doing so would have allow to destroy the Sphere-Builder Threat in the 22nd Century, instead of the 26th Century allowing the Federation to expand in the Delphic Expanse unopposed, as such Trip blame them for the death of his sister, as well his own "first death" which turn out Daniels was actually behind it, having reveal the position of the Enterprise at the abuptors of Shran's daughter(since it turn out that to travel in time has its toll on the molecular structure of any traveler, therefore using proxy is the best way to ensure fewer repercussion).... Concluding with the Doctor that in end "You died as the Hero or eventually you become the villain.....and I had all the time of the universe to become it", Trip disappear revealing that it was only present as an image, then the scene change back to the 28th century where an aged Trip walk away from a padwalk identical to the one used by "Future Guy"...revealing that in fact Trip and Future Guy were the same person all along

That ship was beautiful but way too big.
@YDV669
Жыл бұрын
I feel like they really missed a potential plot line with the Galaxy-class. The ship is huge, and as you say, too big for 1000 crew. It really should've been a death trap for enemy boarding parties. "Where the hell are we?" "Why do you think I'd know? The internal map we got off their computer said this corridor should lead to the bridge, but that door just sucked out 50 soldiers into space. And those force fields are now closing in on us." "We're doomed, we never should've come here."

Hubris. The Galaxy class was more of a statement than anything else. It also had purposely empty rooms for expansion. Crew quarters and specially senior officers were enormous. But that's probably to keep them sane. 5 year missions didn't necessarily have to be in starbase ranges, they could be long assignments in the fringes of charted space. Which is why they also had a councilor onboard (and in the bridge)

I really like Bakula and his take on a starship captain, but he really missed the point of that last line with his read. After hearing Reed threaten Tucker with being taken out and shot, Archer turns his own threat back on him, so there should be an emphasis shift to show that: "if I hear that alarm again, I'm going to have *you* taken out and shot."
@claytonkennedy4187
Жыл бұрын
It’s subtle, but the emphasis is there (mostly in the pause afterwards, not the change of pitch.) It’s just a bit obscured by the clothing ruffling. It’s more of an editor/director duty. Maybe this was the best take. I’m suuuure an actor would spot a simple beat like that.
@Yeager123123

@promontorium

An emphasis on "you" might have worked better for this specific scene (because they were out of their minds a bit), but what he actually does is emphasize the "taken out and shot" which is harder to pull off, but is much more in character with Archer, who would then not just be throwing back the threat, but chastising him for even suggesting such an extreme punishment. "I'm going to have "you" taken out and shot". = It's you who will die. "I'm going to have you "taken out and shot"." = "Bitch did you just threaten to kill someone, I'm the captain!"

This reminds me of either of these episodes, The Naked now and The Naked Know. Where the crew got a "disease" that makes you act as if are more than slightly drunk. (Data and Tasha Yar had a one night stand.) And The Next Generation episodes with Sarek and Lwaxana Troi, sending out emotions because of elderly based problems with certain Stellar Races. An Angry drunk playing Soldier, a airhead drunk that has to have OCD over a small detail. A Drunk that is drinking beer and it isn't phasing him because he usually drinks something stronger. (Whiskey is a usual choice of mine.) T-pol is slightly confused and not sure of what is happening because it is her first time getting hammered.

The first one was "The Naked Time" (TOS), and the next TNG version, similar idea, was "The Naked Now". The Sarek episode is "Sarek", and the Lwaxana episode is "Dark Page".

Best part: Archer at the end, the acting and dialogue are terrific (and hilarious). Worst part: The unnecessarily dramatic music. Yeah the crew are dangerous in this state, but they're funny. The music feels wrong, tonally speaking.

Sci-fi fans will hoot and holler and clap at any awful piece of media as long as it "respects the canon". Lore is not a substitute for production quality.
