If you're a fan of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers or Super Sentai, you might think you know everything about the colorful teams of heroes and villains that battle it out on screen. But did you know that there was almost a very different version of this popular franchise? One that was developed by none other than comic book legend Stan Lee?
That's right, in the mid-1970s, Lee tried to team up with the Japanese production company Toei to bring Taiyo Sentai Sun Vulcan (太陽戦隊サンバルカン Taiyō Sentai San Barukan, translated into English as Solar Squadron Sun Vulcan) to the United States. This show featured a trio of heroes who use their martial arts skills and high-tech weapons to protect the Earth from a variety of bizarre monsters and villains.
In this video, we'll explore the crazy story behind Sun Vulcan and how it almost became Stan Lee's version of Power Rangers. We'll look at the development of the show and how it differs from the other Super Sentai series of the time.
But even though, much to Dan Larson's dismay, Sun Vulcan didn't become the phenomenon that Lee had envisioned, it still holds a special place in the hearts of Super Sentai fans around the world. We'll take a closer look at the characters, weapons, and mecha of the show, and why they continue to be beloved by fans today.
So if you're ready to learn more about the crazy story of Sun Vulcan and its almost-connection to the Power Rangers, be sure to check out this video!
