This film slowly pushed its way to my most anticipated of the year and It didn’t let me down at all. The visual effects were so good and i loved the story. The overall vibe i got from it is very James Cameron. I thought the tone struggled a bit to find a way to settle in through the first act but once the vibe sets in, I think the film works very well. the world reminds me a bit of Elysium mixed with blade runner. It’s quite an interesting sci fi movie and I thought it felt very original in its ideas about AI and humanity. I cried a lot towards the end.

That’s the thing with emotion, it’s subjective in a way that everyone as individuals have different ways of relating to and/or expressing emotions. Not everyone can feel a certain way when something is emotionally portrayed, like when you have a major tear jerker of a movie but you have others who don’t connect on the same level as the majority. This is part of what makes everyone different on some level. It’s important to factor opinions of others but not let it be the absolute deciding factor of everything you do, including watching movies.

The main schism in reviews for this movie seems to be whether you feel it is too derivative of other movies or shows that came out recently. The "human were really the problem all along" thing smacks of Avatar and the little girl who is a savior but might be seen by some as evil being taken care of by a hardened guy was literally the plot of the Last of Us. (I guarantee the makers and backers of this film did a full Homer Simpson "Doh" when that came out )And trying to make the audience feel guilty about the Vietnam War, when most people were not even born when that was fought was kind of a weird choice. Best way to describe it, If you do not mind just seeing the same kind of plot, then you will like this movie, especially with the great special effects. If you are like "dude I seen this like a 100 times already", then it will be meh for you.

Just got back from a secret screening that turned out to be The Creator. I was so hyped for this movie and wanted it to be the next 5/5 sci-if epic. Unfortunately I have to agree that the emotional aspects just didn’t work for me (or my girlfriend who usually cries at everything but didn’t cry here). The world that’s been built here is incredible, the action scenes that sometimes feel ripped straight from TLOTR or AQOTWF were also stellar. Visually this film was impeccable and the “big threat” was one of the most intimidating things I’ve scene in cinema and whenever it was on screen I was worried for the world’s inhabitants. However I just didn’t care about the protagonists relationship with the kid as much as the film wanted me to. The ending also felt rushed to me and I refuse to believe the protagonist’s plan played out as easily as it did when considering the environment and situation they were in. Overall I really enjoyed it and will probably watch again to see if my opinion changes on a repeat viewing.

This film, IMO, is certainly worth worth consuming in cinema despite several structural flaws. First, the cinematography and music, handled by Greig Fraser and Hans Zimmer, respectively and both worked on _Dune_ (2021), are phenomenal. Second, the first ⅓ of the film is great, including the world-building. In terms of axiology, the game is actually given away in the first scene following the opening montage, for anyone with even the dimmest knowledge of the U.S. political system knows that scene strongly implies, if not outright states, the small 'd' is nowhere to be seen. Third and fourth, however, for the latter ⅔ of the film, the world-building, which was adequate prior, is stagnant and fails to address the following: the complete absence of the political structure of New Asia (N.A.) in this conflict with the U.S.; and the frankly implausible demands or lack thereof regarding the aftermath of this conflict from a major martial N.A. leader, whom I assume to be representative of the majority of N.A. citizens. As for the Creator themself, which the film wrongfully names after, the designing of the super weapon with unlimited technological potential yet no security measures on the psychological [1] and physical fronts is cartoonishly imbecilic. And fifth, the adult-child duo relationship development is completely unbelievable. I did not react in the least at any of the supposed emotional interactions, aside from a few that are just appropriate contextual stimuli. *Footnote* [1] I tried avoiding any spoilers, but what the constitution of the super weapon is clearly revealed in the trailer(s).

I disagree with you on this one Austin. Yes, the film is visually spectacular and it's definitely the best (visually and technically) blockbuster of the year. But the script also focuses on a very contemporary discussion regarding the benefits vs dangers of AI, and speaks of what it is to be human, the sentient machines and the USA's penchant to military interfere globally and act as if they are the police of the world, and other cultures are less relevant. The film has a lot of heart and makes brave choices which aren't usual at all in this film genre, especially when produced in Hollywood. The ending is poignant and had an emotional impact on me. It's one of the best sci fi movies of recent years IMO.

I think the problem is John David Washington. At this stage, he has one mode - intense (and maybe angry - 2 modes). It worked in Tenet and Blackkklansman, but in this one, we need someone with a sensitive side. Granted I haven’t seen all his movies. I think maybe, LeKeith Stanfield, could have done a better job playing the vulnerable part with the AI child. He was the strongest part of the latest Haunted House movie - again, he played against a child star. So, I think the movie could’ve been better based on the trailer and the reviews - the emotional connection…

I don't think you need to cry in every film for it to be emotional. I get the impression that this was very much a prequel to a massive story that's yet to come. It could have easily been a 3 hour film and added that emotional build up that way, however... it seems to be hard already attracting people to watch the film so a 3 hour runtime probably wouldn't help that. I think it was fantastic and I want to know so much more about this world, it left it open. I also felt like I was watching a live action anime, it would be cool to see some stories done in anime style in the future for sure, I got serious AKIRA vibes.

That giant MCU style flying fortress always where it instantly needs to be. The opening scene kinda reviles it. Classic military navy seals style scuba force immerging stealthy from the water onto the beach. I loved this movie. The thing with this film which a lot of reviews I've looked-at so far seem to miss, is the subtle multi-layering of many MANY small emotional cues among main cast, side cast, and background cast characters. Many also seem to completely miss the actual plot/point of the plot (some spoilers below) There's masses of emotional body language everywhere, especially with the AI characters with the fully robotic appearance. A lot of reviews keep saying the plot is "AI taking over the world" but it's not. The plot is about how humans built-up AI, perfected it, to the point that AI beings had become fully capable of the same emotions as humans and were truly sentient. Effectively a new race that now lives alongside humanty. In the US, humans working with AI created a coding error that resulted in an AI launching a nuke. The USA's reaction to that was to launch a completely overblown war against all AI, even going to far as to invade a foreign territory. "It's not a war against your country, just against AI" says the US, while they then proceed to indiscriminantly threaten and kill civilians, bombing whole settlements just because they happen to be also inhabited by the AI's resistance. We see the humans from the US forces engaging in acts against AI characters that were they against other humans they themselves would consider to be absolutely depraved, but they excuse it to themselves since "they're just machines/it's just programming". On the opposite side the AI just want to survive, to live without fear, to be left alone to live alongside their human and AI friends and adopted family. Even the US forces AI have a subtle moment in the first of the two mobile bombs. The first one, upon being commanded to run to the AI's position and be blown up, hesitates and has to be ordered multiple times to move before it actually goes to its death. Another moment comes to mind from a flashback where we hear about an AI who adopted an orphaned human child, who upon the child dying in an attack on the AI-inhabited settlement then turned itself off because they couldn't bear to continue existing after the child's death. Early in the film, inside the blast zone where the AI there wakes-up in and starts screaming and calling out for the human family they'd been with (the bodies in the vehicle), we see the woman's reaction to how the AI's panic and emotion was just like a human. This is a film where we see AI being far more "human" than the humans that are attacking them. Where we see the main character begin to question the "they're just machines" mindset, his internal conflict as he fights with what he's been told and what he's seeing in front of him, until he reaches the point where he truly understands his mistake and is willing to risk death to protect the AIs. Willing to die so they can just live their lives. Because no, in this film the AI don't want to wipe-out humans as the US think they do. "What will happen to the US if we win this war? ....nothing." This is a film that questions what it means to be alive, to be a true living and sentient being. That questions humanity, the depths to which some fall in how they treat those they see as not worthy of life or consideration, and the heights to which some will rise to protect those they do see as worthy of life and consideration. This is a film that wants you to think. This is a film I would definitely recommend be watched at least twice (I will certainly be getting the blu-ray of this when it comes out), because like reading a good book for the second time, I'm already certain I'll spot a great many more things the second time around :)

They need to quit shoving jdw into lead roles. Hes terrible and theyre just trying to be diverse and we are paying for it.

I give it a C- 1. Too much fightings, blowing up stuffs, too much action. 2. Tried too hard to make it into a love story. 3. The world doesn't need anymore movies with black/ white dating an Asian woman. Why not an Asian man dating white/black woman ?
