After maneuvering to prevent several opposition candidates from running, President Nicolas Maduro seems best placed to win the early presidential election, Sunday, May 20 in Venezuela. For nearly three years, the economic and political crisis has continued to undermine the organization of the country, where two camps clash in the street and in the institutions of the regime. At the end of July, the government bypassed the National Assembly, where the opposition is in the majority, by creating a constituent assembly that is fully acquired. In the wake, the party of the president won the regional and municipal elections, much to the chagrin of the opposition, who denounced fraud and refused to recognize the victory of the presidential party. All this in a country where inflation reached 2,610% in 2017, pushing more than 600,000 people to leave the country. How did we get to such a situation? Back to the origins of the crisis in Venezuela in five minutes.
