Yes, it did. James L. Brooks, Al Jean, and Mike Reiss were showrunners and the writers who worked on The Critic later on ended up writing for The Simpsons (and the two other Matt Groening cartoons, Futurama and Disenchantment): Ken Keeler (the same one who wrote that Simpsons episode where Principal Skinner reveals that he's really a man named Armin Tamzarian), Patric M. Verrone (who became head of the Writers Guild of America, western division), and some other ones I can't name because I forgot. Though I do know that Judd Apatow (the guy who created Knocked Up and Superbad) started out here.

I really want to see the live action version of Dennis The Menace: To Society. CGI has improved so much since the 1990's that I genuinely think you could make an awesome Thriller/Crime movie and have it parody the original cartoon. I mean cmon we already have The Fresh Prince with no laugh track and Archie banging Mrs. Grundy while people in Riverdale are murdering their moms in real life, so I think a gritty Dennis the Menace should be the next thing to hit the scripts.

I think the exact opposite, is pretty dumb actually. If it had decent writers it would have been really funny, but all their jokes were extremely middle of the road. Eh, the reason The Critic is still good, is because it did not go on too long, until the old team of writers left and some newer, worse team came in and changed the show into something terrible. Or it just goes on too long, and they run out of good ideas so they just make things zany to pretend it's actual comedy. Ala The Simpsons, Family Guy, South Park and many more show that were once great, but then fell into a pit as they were on decades longer than they should have been. As such, I think that any modern media company that took on The Critic for a reboot or movie or what have you, would screw it up and taint the memory and legacy of the show,, because they turned it into abject garbage. So I guess, we should be careful what we wish for. We just might get it, and it might not be anything like what we thought we wanted.
