This team is seriously broken. They get themselves back into the playoff race and then slowly squander what they did. … This is on the Players (and the GM) now. Coaches have nothing to do with this pathetic inconsistency and carelessness. … Special “thank you”s to the Oiler Powerplay - who not only failed to score, but gave up a shorthanded goal (RNH and Bouchard with assists), to the P.K., to a debilitating lack of secondary scoring, and to a stunning lack of going to difficult areas in front of the net.

I’m tired of the ‘we were goalied’ lament. Watch the chances we had and our guys show they are lousy finishers. And so many chances u guys grade as A or 5Alarm aren’t that great. Sure they get a chance, but every goalie seems to rise to the occasion. And it’s not just the goalie, it’s the D collapsing around the net , clearing out rebounds… when every goalie (win, lose or draw) rises to the occasion. It makes those performances the norm, not the exceptions.

Long post follows with base game statistics including some for the New York Islanders. Read, don't read, up to you. These are BASE stats not detailed ones. Draisaitl from Foegele and Ekholm. That was ALL of the Oilers scoring. They had 4 PP opportunities (including a 2 man advantage for nearly a minute) and couldn't put it in the twine. The reverse was NOT true for the Islanders. Two Power Play goals AND a shortie were all the goals in the 2nd period (with nothing in the third). My comments are not suitable for adults let alone children so I'm not going to write them down. Statistically the Oilers got OWNED in shot blocks and Hits. The PK couldn't keep out 1/2 of the opportunities the Islanders got and the PP couldn't score. Nuge made a bad pass that led to the shortie, I mean Nuge who does this about as often as the second coming. The Oilers continue to shoot more against their opponents just not getting them in. Sorokin had a really good game and justifiably got the first star. Take care all.

Actually agree with Bruce. They did not get goalied. They lost to a better team and failed to execute. On the only stat that matters going into the game the Islanders were 9 points ahead of Oilers. Oilers are not a good team and have not been a consistent team for 90% of the McDavid era. Accept the fact.

Sadly, just look at the playoff record over that time. 16-17 looked like the season of arrival, then they miss the next two years (Why???), then they struggle in early rounds for two years. Then they go 3 and 2 rounds (not bad), but have the shortfalls of those years been addressed? It's not just who is on the team, but the way they play, and that doesn't only mean systems.

All these teams showing the Oilers how to win in todays NHL. Good defense and a good goalie. Something the Oilers just dont have. Its not the 80's anymore, high powered offense doesn't do it. We will never "goalie another team" with this current roster.

The Oilers have 3 primary plays they try to setup on the PP, the Isles took away all those lanes, yet we still tried to pass through them with zero success, added to that I thought they had very little pace on the PP. Perhaps the boys enjoyed New York a little to much Monday! It is disheartening and obvious this line-up is seriously flawed, the fact we have zero cap space makes it even more galling!

So the fans are down on Pickard for 1 game where he had no D in front of him. Reminds me of the Koskinen abuse. Meanwhile they still believe in Campbell and feel oh so bad for him. Skinner deserves tons of chances, but Pickard doesn't. Lol. Anyway, Islanders D was excellent, as was their Goaltending. At least 1 really horrid Oiler line change, which almost cost them. Oilers almost always shoot on a 2 on one, and it very rarely pays off. Try some drills on that Coach. 4 Rancid pickles out of 10.🥒🍄🥒

It seems that management realizes they can't put together a winning team in order to convince them both to stay. Instead they are focused on catering to McDavid in the hopes that at least he does. What an embarassment! I hope at least they get a good return for Leon when he gets traded, but I'm not holding my breath. I wouldn't trust this management group to run a lemonaide stand.

Skinner played a good game. He's not on par with goalies last 3 games but Oilers can win with him. Not enough finishers behind "core". Need some tweaks before trade deadline What happened to hitting? How can you play the whole game and not have 1 hit! The goalie and Bouchard played the shooter. Let the goalie take the shooter..no way that pass should get across. Bouchard has been really good this season though

seems to be something wrong w GM (kenH) roster. Not sure if it is speed or character/grit.. but so often just a bit off. Could be Goalie.. or maybe just too many guys that are poor finishers. In reality a lot of shots are at the goalie.. (and not at the open net)... so it may just be a spectator error to say the goalie is great. Drais is the only true finisher.. w Kane good at times and Hyman scoring off rebound junk etc... but RNH is not a finisher and few others. Shame, but will have the KH roster for quite some time. Perhaps Neal, Campbell, Brown, is just too big a 'dead cap wt' to carry... along w all the others (Foeg, mcL, etc) just not being able to rally on their own... basically all rely on mcD to set them up. ??

Recently David has been talking over Bruce more often, it seems to me. Which is sad cuz I want to hear what the Bruce has to say, which sometimes requires a long preamble and set-up, but has rewarding punchers at the end. It happens the other way too but less, I think. As for not looking at each other, I think both know they are doing this not just for each other as if it were a personal call, but for all of us listeners, and there's an understanding that one can look up stuff as the other continues talking.

Using 96 points as the minimum for a WC, the Oilers need a win% from now to Gm82 of .651 (to get 69 pts out of a possible 106 remaining). I'm tired of "best player in the world" talk. Yes, he's one of the best offensive threats ever, but there are many dimensions to being a valuable hockey player. Every player up and down the line-up has to be responsible for bringing out those dimensions onto the ice every game. Also, in close games they have to learn to secure single Bettman points, they add up, look at Seattle.
@joetoh6675
9 ай бұрын
And to go .651 they need to be about 8th best in the league the rest of the way. Not impossible, but is this team up to the task? Every 10 games: win 6, get a loser point in one, can't lose more than 3.
