You guys are both people I enjoy listening to and learning from- I am looking forward to seeing where this takes you and us. Unscripted conversation is hard to come by these difficult days. Keep the flame burning.

I LOVE this conversation. I so agree that no one talks anymore. All of our conversations seem to be trivial or transactional. I wish we could just sit and explore one another’s brains. There’s so much to learn from how other people think. ❤️

Thank you so very much for this discussion and doing more in the future! I found you when my mother was dying with cancer and my teenage daughter was experiencing a very challenging time. For me as caretaker, daughter and mother, I found A Kiss Before You Go to be exactly what I needed. As someone who spins raw wool into yarn and knits with it daily, the “process” means everything to me. This entire conversation reminded me that I drew a moment in time just as my mother was about to pass… it’s there in my sketchbook just as it actually took place. Thank you for this. Thank you for helping educate humans that we need our moments in time where we are not in the Matrix! We are human and we need art. Not to be Art for some people who can afford it. Blessings and hugs in your new year. Again, thank you.

I really enjoyed how John brought up analogous vs. homologous structures as ways to question why things are the way they are, and their relationships. I also found Danny’s response to the question about authenticity very eloquent and insightful. Great episode, I’m excited to hear more!

The Electrical Meat. You two are perfect foils. (FOILS not FOOLS) I love that you pause long enough to think before you speak. Thanks to you Danny, I'm starting my Studio Journal January 1st and I think I'm starting it in the middle. The Mind Palace from Sherlock came to mind with your second brain discussion. That and all the strings on a crime scene board. Stopping my comments here because I'm burning too many calories and you really don't need a running commentary. I'm 100% in.

Everything you see was once a thought somewhere. I was having a CT scan a few weeks ago and was looking at the machine thinking that this was once a thought in someone's head. Putting it on paper is the first step to fruition. Listening to your podcast was like having a cool drink of water after a trek in a desert. Danny reminded me of how many conversations that we have that are, not superficial but mundane. I feel like I am there, nodding my head and then I get to join in the conversations going on in the comments. Good show...keep on, please and thank you.

I enjoyed that little bookmark. Your words on memory really touch a spot as I lost most of my life after head injury. It is hard to remember things. I often tell people I have stories I've been told but nothing that is real until after the injury.

Wow. I'm hooked on this. Talking about the second brain -- this has been an obsession of mine my whole life. I'm currently learning all I can about how Zettelkasten principles work. The problem with the Zettelkasten approach as I currently understand it is that its ultimate goal is a written piece. I am hoping to either discover someone who has applied the principles toward a more holistic approach of visual storytelling or (who knows) figure out an approach for myself. :)

The strawberry story, and the seven years cell replacement, always makes me think of the Stoic idea that we should not fear death, as we have already died a hundred times before. As for whether we had strawberries and central heating in the UK might depend on what decade you're talking about.

Listening to you both talking of being able to instantly conjur up the sights, sounds and everything around you when you were drawing a particular scene, makes me very envious. I can't do that. I am A-Phantasic, it sounds like both of you are at the other end of the scale, Hyper-Phantasic. I can still remember some things related to a drawing or painting, but not in the way that you talk about. Yet there are still memories for me. For instance, I went to Wivenhoe down by the river ( just after the Regatta - yes, I missed all the boats!) But looking at the painting in my sketchbook I remember the heat of that day, the seagulls flying BELOW me over the river, the slow relaxation of those people still there - and the peace of it.

I can relate to fear of losing creative and interesting thoughts unless they are captured. Thinking about relationships helps create a better synapse connection to consciously gel the inspiration. It’s a good argument for having a solid knowledge base of some sort. Thanks for this discussion.

This podcast is very interesting. Curiosity being a tool and a skill! I never would have thought about that. I thought it just came naturally. Keep doing these podcasts! OMGosh! I am now going back to paintings I did 20 years ago and reworking them. It is going to be interesting to observe my process. About the 2nd brain. Don't think I can take that on yet. I'm still trying to figure out the 1st brain - although maybe the 2nd brain concepts might help us understand the 1st brain. Thanks a bunch!

mmm.... about the second brain thing... I absolutely think that our minds hold onto what we take in through our senses and then at perhaps another or deeper level... our brain takes in what we in the blink of an eye sometimes... count as important. And our brain recalls. And develops ideas. And brain storms!!!! I absolutely am excited because I believe our brains create and join the dots and seed new ideas FROM what material they hold. And I believe that our brain needs to do the work... to get to the creativity. No shortcuts. (i'll keep listening... love this conversation)
