adapted from 1998 CD liner notes:
The Daily Flash's first single, released on PARROT in June of '66, coupled a strong folk-rock arraangement of Bob Dylan's "Queen Jane Approximately" with the band's original "Jack of Diamonds".
Opening with a drawn-out-feedback-and-drum build up, and then launching into a thundering, guitar-driven arrangement, "Jack of Diamonds" is a remarkably advanced piece of work. The raw wailing harmonica and abrasive guitar break recall something of the Yardbirds and anticipate the psychedelic movement centered around San Francisco.
