before WW2 the polish expelled germans (like my grandmother) they put them in cattlecars on trains over night exposed in those cars to Germany and took all their assets (my grandmother filmann family owned factories in poland apparently) and left them nothing... some of those germans died in the cattle cars to germany... one of the many stories i heard from my german grandmother but am very lucky to be in Australia not that i am legitimising the nazi's at all...

I'm a german that left for good and here are a few facts: 1) Not having a speed limit doesn't bring you anything If the highway Is constantly under construction. 3) Most insurences are a duty. 4)The countries technological development is 20 years behind. 5)Germany has very high taxes, but Is broke because the politicians are looting the state treasury. (e.g Foreign Minister baerbock spends 26000€ tax money on her visagist every month) 6)The internet is among the worst you can find in the western world. 7)Living space is almost unafordable meanwhile 8)The working people pay taxes for the social system that provides for the unemployed, but more and more people stop looking for work because the social support is higher than the minimum wage. So why Work? The social system is therefore on the bring of colapse. I am so happy I left Germany. This country Is done.

I know this, but it's crazy when people defend germany as a haven. The government alone is stealing almost half of the peoples hard work money.

I'm a half-German engineer born in Germany who emigrated to Australia because of all these problems. The most important reason that was not stated: Starting from 2014 Germany was flooded with uneducated, reactionary and incompatible people of a certain religion that don't want to become a part of German society but rather see themselves as an invasion force to establish Islam as ruling power in Europe. The naive German politicians hoped for a boost in motivated and educated young people who would prevent the German economy from collapsing by working and with their higher birth rates when opening the borders but their arrival is actually accelerating the slow process of dissolving the culture and destroying the industry of a once very powerful nation with all its traditions and values. In Australia I earn almost 3x as much (after taxes) than in Germany before and it's much safer, people are more friendly and the weather is sunny all year.

As a german it makes me very sad that nearly all of this is true... only thing i would probably correct is that i never saw noticeable dislike against expats..... just against "poverty migration" there is a lot of hate. People come from all over the world to abuse the asylum law to get into the pretty need social security system (free healthcare and housing and basic needs without any prerequisite.....).... THAT's whats causing a lot of dislike. Noone cares about some engineers from us or india or anywhere. If you get a work visa, noone really cares.

As an American who lived in Germany (For the same reason most have...'Uncle Sam' sent me?) I think you'll find a lot of the American Ex-Pats living there stayed on after getting out of the Military. Either offered a job because of what they learned in the Military (Computers are a big one?) but another reason is....'Love'? A lot of 'Ami's' married a Local & after 'getting out' felt so welcomed by the country & their 'new' families they just stayed? A lot of these guys also are 'Double Dipping'....separated or retired from the Military & then got jobs as G.S. Contractors (Civilians working for the Military) and were able to stay in Germany.

I remember the toilets. When I was about 18, I read a book by Nietzsche in which he made fun of the German toilets. I had never actually seen one. Then, at the end of the last millennium, I was visiting some in-laws in Bonn. We had driven there (taking the Chunnel) and when we got there I had to go. They had one. I had to laugh. I still remembered Nietzsche's description over a quarter century later.

the baby names thing makes sense, quite a couple of the points you brought up are in no way shape or form "dark" sides .. but yes .. most of the other presented problems are just that ... messed up problems .. GEZ is a forced tax claiming not to be a tax. the income tax is just WAY too high etc

When I was posted there, the Germanic first names were actually becoming less common than the more English/American sounding first names. Especially for the Girls. You'll meet far more Barbaras,Lindas,Sandras etc than you will Fraukes,Liesels,Gertrudes etc. It's a shame because some of the others IMO were quite beautiful? (Karin,Ingrid,Elke,Elfi (for Elfriede) Hanne (for Hannelore) are some that come to mind?)

@@DrOlds7298 short of barabara and frauke i know at least one or more people from my past with those names, so they're not completely gone just not as common anymore, that combined with less and less kids ofc has quite an impact..
