No doubt it's problematic. But at the same time, EA has stated that they want to become more involved with AI. The next Sims game has a particularly high chance to have this very thing in it as well. The same people saying inzoi's use of AI isnt a problem are the same sims players who will harass modders to put out an update on a mod ASAP, but still have the audacity to say they should not be compensated for their work. Everyone should have a problem with a big company profiting off stolen content of other artists and creators. And yes, if you didn't get prior consent, it's theft.

I completely agree with you. It's hypocritical for people to demand so much from modders while refusing to acknowledge the value of their work. But it's not surprising-when people undervalue others' efforts, they’re likely to support anything that promotes quick creation, regardless of ethics or impact. It's a selfish mindset. Big companies profiting off the hard work and creativity of others without consent is a serious issue, and it's absolutely theft when permission isn't given!

In my daily life I find that the obnoxious people who yell „progress! AI! Computers!!!” the loudest are often the same people who require the most assistance catching up whenever any progress is made, and even believe they’re ENTITLED to that assistance of you, the person they claim should lose their job. I’m an IRS employee in my country and I hear time and time again that it’s high time that my work is taken over by computers, that the taxes should be entirely automated, it’s the 21st century, yadda yadda. And our field has come pretty far: you can file most forms online, your accounting can be done entirely in computer programs that generate reports for you, you can make tax payments to your individual account, the customer service phone line is automated so it directs you to an expert in the topic you’re interested in… And the SHEER AMOUNT OF PHONE CALLS I have to answer on a daily basis because the people who claim I am obsolete can’t grasp how to use the very easy tools and require my help after all, is absolutely astonishing. It’s hilarious. And yet it doesn’t seem to teach them anything.

But when it came to her looking up close to the posters/signs, people started saying how it looked ai generated. And at that moment, it was so weird seeing her go 'ohh they mustve used real life images as placeholders' and try to pretend like she couldnt see the chat saying ai. and she immediately replied the moment a non-ai related message popped up. and like, i get that the ccs who got this game early have to portray mostly positive impressions. I just find it off how everyone seems to know using ai-generation is controversial and ethically questionable, but try to side step it in the most awkward way possible

It’s interesting how she acknowledged chat messages quickly when they weren’t related to AI, but seemed to avoid the topic altogether when it came up. This kind of selective engagement can feel disingenuous. It's off-putting when creators, who are often seen as the voice of the community, dodge these discussions instead of addressing them. I believe that accepting sponsorships is fine, but I personally would never be willing to give up my principles and be insincere with my community just to accept money and gifts from questionable developers.

The fact that more people aren’t talking about the devs sending people whole gaming rigs + the lack of disclosure is terrifying. Remember a few months back when people were flipping out on EA for offering like $100 to their creators for some gallery thing? A PC to run InZOI at the specs in those videos has got to be at least 1,500 dollars worth the equipment. The fact that SO many content creators (including very small ones who probably weren’t running that kind of expensive hardware) have gotten copies of this game and reviewed it without disclosing that is shady. RE the AI: There has definitely been a bit of a fridge horror aspect to watching all of these early reviews. Like the facial scanning thing is cool until you think about it for a second. I’m glad my current rig can’t run it because I probably would have gotten swept up in the hype instead of pausing for a second to look deeper.

@@irmar 1) Several have explicitly stated after the fact that they were sent PCs by the InZOI team that they were allowed to keep, which was not disclosed in their videos. Whether or not the InZOI team sent out hardware is not really a question, the question is “how many”. 2) Yes, some people who covered the game probably had good computers. The issue with not disclosing receiving hardware is that we have no idea how many people just got early access to the game and how many people got a $1,500 “gift” to say nice things about the game. If there were transparency then this would not be as concerning as it is. It’s shady.

I don't disagree with what is being said here. Rather it opens a can of worms that isn't just a Krafton issue. If you use Adobe products for editing, they use AI in the 2024 version. Andrew Wilson, CEO of EA has a goal to have all games within EA's portfolio be 60% AI generated. I would post links, however, I suspect KZitem will consider them spam. That being said, a simple search for the articles regarding what Andrew Wilson wants to do are easily found just as are the articles about Adobe. So my question to you which you are under zero obligation to answer is: Are you willing to stop playing any new releases from EA as well that also contain AI? Will you stop using products such as Photoshop? I have zero interest in playing / purchasing Inzoi. I don't make a habit of buying video games as the gaming industry as a whole is a crap shoot IMO. The last game I bought was ACNH which I regret for falling into the hype. I do use Photoshop, but I use it to correct my own images, not to use / include the work of other people. Just a few thoughts. It would be interesting though to see / hear your thoughts regarding AI and it's use across the gaming industry as a whole. 😊

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and for your question! So, I actually stopped using Photoshop for that exact reason-choosing not to support a company that increasingly relies on AI. As for gaming, I'm absolutely willing to stop playing any new releases from EA that incorporate AI-generated content and/or features. It's about making choices that align with my values. For instance, Procreate has taken a firm stand against generative AI, stating on their website, "Generative AI is ripping the humanity out of things. Built on a foundation of theft, the technology is steering us toward a barren future. We think machine learning is a compelling technology with a lot of merit, but the path generative AI is on is wrong for us. We're here for the humans. We're not chasing a technology that is a moral threat to our greatest jewel: human creativity." I find this admirable, and this is the kind of company I would absolutely support. By the way, I’ve included links to everything I mentioned in this video’s description if you want to check them out.

What I find kind of strange about the whole shpeel is how people are saying "EA should be worried" or "The Sims is OVER" yet, mind you, a very dangerous precedent could be BROUGHT TO EA through this game setting it. Rene could be equally as invasive as INZOI and could give players now TWO franchises that are competing over the intellectual properties of people, and being invasive in a grey area. so YES, The Sims could be over, and something much better (but also much worse where is AI is involved) could fill those shoes when the next game is released by EA. Then people will become nostalgic for The SIms 4 after its over and the cycle will continue. its kind of grave to me. :(

As an artist, I’ve been disturbed by AI art since day one. What’s happening with inZOI is pretty much the next natural step taken by corporations that shows us what they ACTUALLY think of creatives doing all the work that brings them money. This is a direct result of EA claiming players are no longer interested in story-driven single player games. Of the rampant mistreatment of voice actors and some suit in Amazon claiming that there is no acting involved in games. After coming after, devaluing the work of and underpaying their writers and voice talents, they finally found a way to do the same to their visual artists. It was difficult to achieve because the average player tends to care about the visuals more than anything else, but alas, they found a solution! The artists were already severely mistreated in the crunch culture but NOW they also get to be stolen from and potentially made obsolete! Neat!

I believed AI would be used to replace the manual labour jobs when I was younger (now that I am older, I am a bit questionable on the ethics of that, but the jobs more along the lines of those no one wants to do, but I am questionable on that now due to uni students needing a way to make a living while studying. If the government where I lived was more generous with the study allowance for students, as well as processing getting the payment within a semester, and reduced rents, transport costs, groceries and utilities so students might not make a lot, but enough to live independently on, I would be less questionable on the ethics) and leave the creative and artistic jobs room so that people would have more time to experiment with them. I do think AI has its place, but the arts already are undervalued. It is already hard to make a living as an artist, yet we need artists in our society. And there are ways AI can work WITH artists, as a sound designer, we have plenty of AI tool plug ins we can use for various purposes. But it still requires a human to choose how to combine sounds together, balance them, make something new from the collection of sound effects we (the human sound designers) have recorded. I am planning on making an audio drama next year. I am in the process of writing it. I have got voice actors lined up, human ones to add emotion and chemistry with performances. I need to be one of them for cost saving purposes, but I am still a human. I will be getting one of my friends to do the art for the audio drama, even though it will cost me some money. I will be doing the sound design for it. I will use some generative AI to make a few possible musical tracks for it so I can figure out what instrumentation I want and have some examples to pass onto one of my music producer friends, but then I'll collaborate with them to improve the musical score and change it in ways that their skills, knowledge, expertise and, well, human nature advises to get it to work with the sound design to elevate emotions of a scene. I believe AI has its place in the arts. But its place should not be taking jobs away from the creative industries, just maybe changing and enhancing our approaches and ability to communicate and collaborate across different creative disciplines. Not in taking away money from our industry from humans. On the information and storing front, I don't have as strong opinions, but I personally do not want a company having rights to use my face outside of the game itself that I am playing and sharing it across that one online platform should I consent to it being shared publicly, not if I upload it privately for use just by my account. Considering the wording in their terms and services, I do not trust they would not be able to use my likeness or produced assets outside of what I would want to approve.

The thing is, there's no such thing as a job nobody wants to do. Any job you can think of, it's someone's passion. This includes stuff like sanitation jobs, farm work, factory work. When I was in high school I was a janitor at a nursing home and I loved it, even the gross or hard parts like cleaning up bodily fluids and lifting 100lb bags of soiled laundry. My mom works in plastics extrusion making window frames and she _loves_ working on the machines even on days she comes home with second-degree burns. My dad was an asbestos removal and demolitions technician and he loved doing it despite all the dangers. An ideal world has technology making jobs like this safer with a social security safety net for when accidents and job-related illness and disability do occur, not replacing all the humans involved with robots. Blue-collar jobs are just as undervalued as the arts, just by a different subset of people.

@@titaniumvulpes I love this comment! One of the janitors at my former workplace once told me about how passionate she was about cleaning, and about the things she'd achieved across all her cleaning jobs. It was all really refreshing to hear, because so many people think these kinds of jobs are "mediocre" or otherwise below some kind of golden standard for careers; as though the only reason anyone would ever take on those jobs is because they had no other choice... But that's not true! Things like cleaning, cashiering, garbage disposal and so on, there are people out there who like such jobs and are even passionate about doing them well. We've gotten to used to taking on societal ideas of what's important or worth doing, and we don't think enough about the significance that the "little things" hold in the well-being of our world. I guess we've been slowly losing that aspect of our humanity over time, and AI is at the point where it can now greatly exacerbate the issue.

I think AI can be super awesome and helpful but as with everything, it highly depends on where it is used. I am kinda sad about all this and about finding out about inzois problems. I tested the game at Gamescom and I got so excited until I also found out that I basically would have to spend at least 1000$ for a new computer as my current one won't be able to handle the game. That's is the thing that annoys me too. Imo gaming should be accessible for everyone and not for people with a lot of money only.

AI is big money right now. And the biggest problem is that the public can't relate to the robots. So you are actually teaching AI, how to relate to people. By "micking your facial features. Your training it how to be more human like. This was one of my first red flags. And the answer to my biggest question. Why would a multi billion dollar company, invest in the amount of work to make this game, and trun around and give it out free? The math doesn't add up. Especially when you look into the company. Who is known for nickle and diming is customer's, for every single thing in thier games. As someone who went to school to be a graphic designer. This type of game cost millions of dollars to create. And as a business owner, I had to ask, how will they recope this money and make a profit. If you are not following my train of thoughts... Think hard. How does the public react to AI? What are thier reactions to robots? How can you change that reaction, to make millions of dollars? The answer is easy, you make the robots relatable. Just like a good story, a social media platform, a movie. The next question is, how do I make it relatable, when people are afraid of it. Computers need human impute. And it needs to be hundreds of humans, imput. So how do you do that, when people are afraid of it? You make a game. And let them train the computer, without knowing that they are. Wake up!

You've raised some important points - many of which were exactly where I hoped people would realise watching this video. The idea that we might be unknowingly training AI through our interactions with it, even in something as seemingly innocent as a game, is one of my biggest concerns and it is EXACTLY what motivated me to even make this documentary in the first place! The business side of it, especially when companies are willing to invest so much and offer products for free, does make you think about the bigger picture. I appreciate you bringing this perspective to the conversation-it's a crucial discussion everyone should be having.

To be fair on the god thing, The Sims Medieval calls the player “The Watcher” which is the same thing, you could even make sacrifices to it, so I’m pretty sure we’re “god” in the sims too. Poor choice of wording on krafton’s end, but even as a Christian I’m a little confused on why everyone finds that odd, there is so much media about gods 😭 And I’m not being sarcastic on this, I genuinely want someone to explain it to me. I know the Bible warns against false idols, but in this case no one is worshipping anyone.

I thought about how awkward and badly acted the Zoi's voices sounded to me when I watched first videos from gamers, and now when I think about it... They're probably AI generated voices, and that's why they sound so bad and lifeless. I'm still playing The Sims 2 to this day because of many things, but also because I love the work of the voice actors so much. They were true professionals and you just feel that when playing the game. They sound so emotional and fun. Btw. your statement at 36:23 is very strong, props for that.

well first of all. big thanks for making this video. It had to be said about the insane compensation to international e-girls (who frankly are fantastic arbitrage vs american ones). The marketing worked. It got me to look at the game. However.. generative AI is unavoidable and frankly sorely needed in the game industry . You've not been a game dev to know that games still take WAY too long to make, cost too much and are too slow relative to the ideas and game design of what us humans can actually come up with. It takes a brutal toll on the lives and families of the developers (to the point where the industry largely doesnt allow you to have one and ages most out by 30) and the only way to solve this is if AI does more of the work , not less. So many devs especially indies have gone through hating the games they are working on because it is so much work (and often not even productive work) and especially if the game is graphicall dependent, it may take so long that it releases in an incredibly dated looking state. Lastly.. we're getting to the point of a post-work society and all over the world we are seeing job based society fail to scale. There will frankly never be as many "good jobs" as people need. especially when the US largely has a monopoly over them and even then.. there aren't enough for most Americans. We won't stop doing this stuff but the sooner we divorce needing to do this stuff for money and everything else the better. Financial insecurity causing birth rates to decline uniformly and massively all across the globe, a perfect storm is coming between automation, that and the western world crumbling as more people flee to live in Asia or Eastern Europe etc to ride all this out. Faced with depopulation of both "Developed" countries and literally a global human depopulation, it's either print money so we can have kids or financialize ourselves / cling to jobs and money into extinction.

Thank you for your thoughtful response! I think it's important to clarify the distinction between AI in general and generative AI. While AI can certainly help streamline processes and reduce the workload for developers, generative AI is a different beast. It doesn't just assist; it often replaces the creative process, which is harmful to those who are passionate about creating. When generative AI is used without consent or proper attribution, it will always be a form of theft. As for the broader societal issues, I’m not based in America, so I can’t fully opinionate on the situation there. However, living in Europe, I can say that things here are not much better. Financial insecurity, job scarcity, and the challenges posed by automation are very real issues on this side of the world as well. The struggles you’ve mentioned are global, and finding ethical solutions is crucial.

Nice point of view, well presented and very humane, you got a new sub :) I have a different perpective : Today, there are many ways to have fun and be entertained, and they are essential for a person’s mental health. Some prefer to read novels, others love watching movies, while some prefer to engage in various activities (gym, sports, fishing, dancing, music, etc.). All forms of entertainment are acceptable as long as they harm no one. Games, then, are also a very popular form of entertainment. As technology advances, the experience offered by games improves and becomes richer. Better graphics, more plot, more interactivity with alternative endings based on players’ decisions, and so on. A.I. is a tool that achieves all of the above and many more ! We can demonize everything sure. However, everything depends solely on us, humans. A kitchen knife is a tool that helps us in the kitchen to cut various products and prepare food. But the same tool can be used for malicious and very bad purposes. Therefore, everything depends entirely on us humans and how we use them ! My hope and my wish is that the purpose of technology (A.I or not), is to benefit each others and no harm to anyone ! All people deserve entertaiment, access to clean water and food, a dry & cozy place to stay and live a life with dignity with beloved people ! Peace & forgive my long writing :)

I want to complain that you said Miku is an AI, then i realized Miku is about to get her AI voicebank. But i'm still gonna correct you anyways. AI technologies that used for synthetic vocals or voicebanks (like SynthV and newer Vocaloids) is solely used for smoothing purposes so the singing voices sounds less robotic like old Vocaloids and UTAUs (another synthetic vocal application, but free). But at the end, you still have to make your synth singing manually and make your own music for your Miku/voicebank vocals singing. So AI is just a feature here and it's very recent. Vocaloid never used AI until now. tldr; Synthetic vocals like Hatsune Miku is an instrument. Not AI generated, and you still have to use her voice manually in the Vocaloid app even if it has AI feature.

Miku, or Vocaloid isn't AI. More like a voice synthesizer software. The "voices" were only and just from the very few contracted individuals who were paid by a Japanese musical instruments company ("Miku" is one of the voices). It does not steal from the whole internet copyrighted or not the way genAI does. The Vocaloid music scene is full of original music actually written and arranged by actual ppl. Vocaloid also has never been promoted or pushed to replace or become humans, whether that's composers or singers. It is quite frankly incapable to do so. Also, I've never used the software myself but I've been reading and it seems like the new AI feature that was recently introduced in Vocaloid is NOT genAI, but simply machine learning with data that was provided by paid voice actors with proper consents to help the original voices sound smoother. So the source is ethical. Edit: Just fixed some sentences to make it clearer

AI in gaming? Sure, if you want soulless, cookie-cutter games that feel like they were churned out by a robot with no sense of fun. Game development isn't just about slapping together some cool-looking assets-it’s about vision, creativity, and making something that actually resonates with players. Thinking generative AI will suddenly make it easy for solo devs to create blockbuster games is wishful thinking at best.
