Im being facetious here, but you definitely missed the mark on that point. I've had self-confidence issues my entire life, and see myself as uninteresting and not put together. But in the relationships I've been in, the other person saw something attractive and worth loving, despite the fact I couldn't see it. I came into both of my relationships partially by happenstance, just being there in that person's life at the right time when I wasn't looking for anything bc I felt I wasn't capable or desrving. For people who never ended up having a relationship, this message will just feed the negative thought loops and drag their self-worth down. You don't have to be a risk taker, or incredibly passionate, or a big hunk, orbe aggressively pursuing someone to find love Sometimes you'll just meet someone who just finds you interesting, and showing that you're interested in them can get the ball rolling. You can build a relationship through comfort and kindness, being the person willing to be there for them when they need refuge from the world.

This video just blew my mind , 6 months ago I've ended a relationship , which I've come across to realize , I've went through it like it was at the movies , it led to me suffering , long time after the breakup and I realize that yeah those were experiences and it was love , and it was a suffering love , that I forced myself to have it in order to be completed. Thank you Charlie.

The pain aspect is a deeper philosophy than you describe here. It's about when giving in to love you accept the fact that you will suffer when it's over. Whether it's a break up or death after a life long relationship accepting love also accepts loss.

I think what makes it exciting is that hollywood romance turns relationships into adventures. It's the classic story of the hero applied to romantic life. You leave your friends and family behind to discover the unknown and after some ups and downs return happy and fullfilled.

I like the tale of the knight who had to prove his love to a princess, where she told him he had to wait for her on a chair outside her castle for a full year. The knight sat and waited, day after day through all kinds of weather, where the princess could see him to prove his loyalty and love. After a year had past, on the last day when the princess was to come down to meet the knight, he got up and walked away.

I want to direct people to the “Before” trilogy (Before Sunrise, Sunset and Midnight), those movies are the most realistic depictions of falling for someone I’ve ever seen. Sure, they speed some things up because each one takes place in a day, but there are no grand gestures of love or anything, it’s all just two people finding a connection within each other by talking.

My friend started dating a girl with low self esteem and she opened up to him and told him that she's insecure about her looks and she thinks she is ugly. He said the classic "You're perfect to me." This was like the third date or something. That was also their last date. She knew right away that he was trying to take advantage and was just trying to make her feel pretty to get her in to bed. Smart girl.

This is absolutely perfect! Lol. Well, at least it's excellent observation and advice! Twilight exemplifies the way a person will actually - ACTUALLY - give up his/her life to be with someone with whom he/she has PROFOUND differences. Bella literally has to become dead/undead in order to be with what's-his-name! Talk about a destructive relationship!

One of my favorite aspects to the movie "Love Simon" is that the kid Martin clearly thinks he's the main character in a Rom Com and follows all the advice given to him from big Hollywood Rom coms. but he's not the main character. Instead we see him from the point of view of the people who suffer from his selfish actions. Actions he think can't be THAT bad because they're "In the name of love" as he would put it. When Martin asks Simon for advice on how to make his friend Abi go out with him, Simon tells him ways he can look more presentable and act like the kind of guy Abi would like, which Martin immediately brushes off insisting that there must be a way for Abi to love him for himself without changing himself in the slightest. He claims he wants to get to know the real Abi and he feels on some level he already does know her but every interaction they share, instead of just having a genuine conversation with her, he tries acting whimsical and quirky in order to charm her, and that makes him look like an obnoxious attention seeker. He believes that he can show her what it means to be a free spirit and pull her out of her shell, but really he's ignoring all of her signals that she's not comfortable with his big displays and his grand gestures are really just embarrassing to her.

The worst thing Hollywood does is pretend that bad decisions are OK because in the end the two characters ended up together, so it's ok.... OR that because two people did not end up together, that bad decisions are therefore justified.

I feel like some don’t know how to properly watch movies and interpret them. Movies only highlight the big grand moments but don’t show those in between moments that are just neutral but worthwhile in real life because it would disengage the viewer. It’s like social media. People truly believe that some people’s lives are non stop big moments because that’s all that’s being shown.
@TheRukuta

I agree with the most things you said but here is a thing you can love yourself, be comfortable with being alone but still feel very lonely. These days I see many videos and posts about why we should let go the idea of finding a partner and I think we are forgetting the fact that we are social creatures.

A huge thing I (almost) always see is that the romance is portrayed as something that will always remain/always feel like the way the infatuation stage does. News flash, it won't. When it comes down to it, loving someone long-term is a driven by choice, not an intense feeling that remains constant.

In many cases self-sacrifice is a sign of love (willing someone the good).
@Crick1952
4 жыл бұрын
While that is true, he's saying it shouldn't be a test of love, because then to maintain/reaffirm it one or both sides will EXPECT this kind of self-sacrifice i.e. pain to "prove" the love. That's just toxic. People who love each other will sacrifice for each other (one of love's most powerful traits tbh) but not because it's expected.

The woman that would eventually become my wife mentioned to me a long time ago. "YOU are ultimately responsible for your own happiness and that takes a lot of work, other people just help you out". Some more than others. We were Paramedic partners working on the ambulance, as well in life for decades. I knew her for 43 years, lived together 30 year and were married for 15 of them. Unfortunately she died in 2020 at the age of 73. I loved her so much, we were a great team. I miss her, but life goes on.

Relationships that aren't the main focus are usually the best. Like Kevin and Holt in Brooklyn 99, the burkes in white collar... Etc. You don't need drama in the relationship when it doesn't drive the plot, but they're usually the most realistic relationships
@anguishingquark
4 жыл бұрын
MoltoRubato88 La La Land was purposely done as a fantasy, a nod to Hollywood culture. They keep seeing each other all over the city. It’s not a realistic relationship because it was dramatized and overly perfect, making it that much more significant when they have to give up on their dreams and their relationship
