My son is an NYPD officer based in Queens NY & when Paul opened Citified my son was mandated to overtime at Citifield & as luck would have it he was assigned to shadow Paul from sound check to when he left the stadium. No pictures or autographs allowed. My son said Paul came in a car with Nancy, no entourage at all. During the small amount of down time Paul was asking my son about himself & was amused my son didn't know mu ch about the Beatles or Paul himself. At the end of the night he graciously thanked my son & Nancy did too. His last remark was " I felt very safe today with you along. Thank you officer." Paul called him by his first name & allowed him in his private dressing room. There were other music icons visiting Paul in his dressing room. All I could think of was the saying that goes something like. "Why does God give the steak to people with no teeth." Its a Sicilian saying which loses something in translation but I would have loved to spend the day with Paul.. Oh my son met his daughters & their kids.

Fascinating story. I blew my one and only chance to meet Paul when I was a music journalist and was invited to a cinema in Leicester Square to watch the premier of Concert for George. Paul was in attendance with a very heavily pregnant Heather Mills. I sat about 10 rows away from him. After the film he hung about for about half an hour but for reasons too long to go into here, I didn't get to talk to him. I had a friend who used to hang around MPL in Soho for years and never saw him - he should have been in your gang. I remember that Wogan appearance you mention.

Fascinating, John! I love meet-up stories like this. I think all three pictures are Fab.. but I can understand why you chose the 'dark' one. I have a photo of me in the same shot with Paul (you can see a cropped version on my main channel).. and I did get an autograph from Paul on that day.. it was February 13, 1993 , in New York City.. when Paul was in town to do Saturday Night Live. But my story is not quite as rosey (wait until you hear what he said to me) ... maybe I'll tell it here in a video some day. .. By the way, I like that you asked Paul about "Café On The Left Bank", as I often thought I'd mention that song to him if I got a chance.

I met Paul in Paris on Dec 24th 2004 in a quiet street walking alone. I had the chance to chat 5 minutes with him before he said "gotta go and finish my xmas shopping". Didn't ask for a pictures or autograph, I was just glad to get that chance. Then after 50m someone came and asked if it was Paul...and I said "Who?" ;-) just kept this moment for myself....

Lots of Paul contact. Wonderful. I have a question prepared for him should I encounter him in an elevator or something like that , in Palm Desert 🌵 California. I would ask if one of his homes is still in the country ? My secondary question is - when you wrote scrambled egg in your sleep how did you document the song when you woke up, hum it into a cassette recorder or played it on piano or acoustic guitar ?

@09:06 George had a hit in 1987 with "Got My Mind Set On You", a song from 1962 written by Rudy Clark, and then he has the nerve to say "Paul's run out of original songs". I have a soft spot for the Mystical One, but I gotta call it when I see it: George was full of bitter shit. Paul never made any type of cynical remark when George's career was in the toilet between 1974-1987. For all the "Krishna" stuff he preached, I think Paul's song "Too Many People" would fit George to a T.

So, I'm not going to enter into any of the controversy of what happened on the evening of 9/11/1966, which is a allegedly immortalised by the song....'A day in the life'. ..However, this information is not readily to most 'Beatles aficionados', so I hope that it may be of some interest... mileswmathis.com/paul8.pdf

I'm sorry, but this Cult of Celebrity fan worship/stalking stuff is just so sticky & embarrassing. I've listened to the Beatles since I was 5-6 years old, love them; the Beatles & some other bands (CCR, The Who, etc) inspired me to play music and it's fair to say I wouldn't have become a professional musician/audio engineer if not for McCartney & Co. But I am not going to hound the man for his time and signature over & over again. I subscribe to the belief that it's best you don't meet your heroes because they'll never live up to the expectation you've set in your mind. I was born & raised in Las Vegas and subsequently played in many of the lounges & showrooms over the years with different bands. I saw a slew of celebrities in the casino areas and never once felt compelled to go bother them. But I sure would see people turning into simpering fools trying to talk to or get autographs from every C-list celebrity they came across. It was cringey and embarrassing to watch...to each his own I guess.
@MIB_63

I don't believe that McCartney consider people requesting his autograph as stalkers. I'm a big music fan myself and own a few autographed albums which I have framed as a reminder of meeting that particular artist and having a chat about the music. But it's mainly the music I care about. Autographs are are just nice to have as souvenirs.

Big difference between Paul McCartney and c-list celebraties though. Can't say I'm into celebrity meeting either...prefer to just enjoy the music from afar. But I can't pretend it wouldn't be pretty cool to meet Paul. You seem egotistical.
@whatspadethinks

@@damonwillis3672 You seem like you eat too many boogers. I'm egotistical because I don't stalk human beings until they write their name on paper for me? The Cult of Celebrity is responsible for much of our social decay. We've got Jr High School teachers eating Mac & Cheese everynight because they barely make enough for rent, all while being unappreciated while teaching the future of the country. Meanwhile a hip-hop goof with one song that broke 10,000 streams is treated like royalty. Think before you smear your Cheeto encrusted digits across your phone typing out nonsense. Fool.
