This post-war film shows the operation of a Sherman Duplex Drive ‘DD’ tank.
The film was produced in January 1946. Although the DD tank shown may have received some upgrades compared with the ones used during the Second World War, the basic operating principles should have been broadly the same.
After a bit about the theory behind making a tank float, the film has three sections:
• Sea-operating
• River crossing
• Amphibious tank escape apparatus
The digitised footage didn’t originally have any music over the opening credits so I’ve added some - it didn’t feel right to me with silence! (There are more than enough protracted silences in the rest of the footage …)
