First thing to mention is this video was edited "TONGUE IN CHEEK!"
Definition of "tongue in cheek" is at the bottom of this description, but it basically means "don't take this video too seriously, mrmatt is going to be just fine lol"
Second thing to mention is, of course this is the continuation of my "(final) Old lifts of bracknell town centre tour" - this is PART 6.
ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
I went to Fitzwilliam House a few years ago and found an original 1970s Otis lift FULL OF CHARACTER lol! - Fast, noisy, delightful bells on the landings and a busy "wurring" motor room.
Did you notice that the old Otis was faster than the Kone in the 'side by side race' at 4:30?
Anyway, what lies in its place is a modern-day Kone MRL with all the character of the old lift ripped out. This probably includes the old motor room as a MRL (motor room less) installation has all equipment in the shaft (I did wonder if the old stuff still remains in there though?)
Some people like classic cars - i'm interested in the old relay and light bulb lifts of the 60s/70s/80s generation. They are gradually disappearing and soon none will be left - Fitzwilliam house is just another example of this.
Yes, I understand WHY, but it's a shame!
Note that the original Otis lift was found in many areas of Bracknell in the 70s and 80s, including Car Park No. 5 which is a semi-derelict car park alongside this building.
Hope you enjoy my "memory lane" video of the "before and after" of this lift installation.
---------Generic info about these videos-----------
Bracknell has special memories for me...
My nan and granddad lived here and over my childhood I got to know Bracknell quite well. I first realised that I had an interest in lifts from when my Nan would take me round the lifts in the town centre. Secretly I was scared of the lifts, but there was something about them that I liked which developed into an interest.
Sadly my nan passed away last Christmas (2012). She was a kind lady that treated everyone the same and never judged anyone.
Something else about Bracknell is, until now, things haven't changed much and some of the lifts that I remember are still there! But "here today, gone tomorrow" is a realistic proverb in this video - Bracknell is being massively redeveloped and is finally moving away from it's 1970s town centre design which inevitably takes away my memories of the town centre as I knew it.
SO...ONE LAST TIME, this time with some supporting documents (and possibly with some "too much information" parts lol), lets do the BRACKNELL LIFT TOUR ONE LAST TIME...!

"Tongue-in-cheek is a figure of speech used to imply that a statement or other production is humorously or otherwise not seriously intended, and it should not be taken at face value. The facial expression typically indicates that one is joking or making a mental effort."
