I think what rubbed people the wrong way about IDubbz and his girlfriend starting an onlyfans, was that this was the first time you ever saw him being dishonest about something. He used to be completely untouchable by any insult you might sling at him because he didn’t try to hide who he was. What you saw was what you got. But seeing how he clearly didn’t agree with women selling their nudes online or showing off their bodies for views and clicks, only to then see him support his girlfriend doing exactly that, painted a giant, neon sign of a target on his back.

It also doesn't help that his girlfriend has been on record to being someone who said the Holocaust was not that bad and just in general being the type of person that idubbbz would have made a Content cop on back when he did them Plus rationalizing his girlfriend being free-to-the-public by saying that she's nothing special is just sad and frankly dehumanizing to her and I don't see that as a reason against people not being okay with it.

@@littlehaven7275 becoming sanitized and family friendly isn't them "growing up and moving on" it's them turning into sellouts and a shadow of their former selves. For one they were already adults by the time they made their edgy content so stop making it seem like they weren't mature while making those videos. Also no, Filthy Frank fans weren't upset with him transitioning into music, some definitely are but most were just sad about it. Because George explained everything about the transition so it didn't feel like he was betraying his fans. Idubbbz and H3 definitely betrayed their fans. They didn't tell anyone and had long gaps in their uploads and when they came back their shit isn't good anymore. I'm sorry if you think that fans are entitled because of this but they do deserve to get mad when all of a sudden their favorite content creator sold out and is now making content antithetical to the videos they were making in the past that their fans initially loved. So yes, they moved on but not in a direction where they are morally superior to their edgy selves back in 2015-2018. Spot on about the Content Cop intro. I've been on YT a long time and have had phases with many genres as they came and went. The animation community of the mid-late 2000s, the CoD/MLG/Machinima bubble in the early 2010s, Achievement Hunter/Rooster Teeth 2012-2015, the "commentary community" you mentioned in 2016-18, and these days I still keep up with PewDiePie and groups like the misfits (swaggersouls, Fitz, etc) who even associate still with Max and Chad. That is a LOT of KZitem Intros logged in to my brain. None stand out as distinctly as Content Cop's (but h3h3s Echorobot theme gets close)
@NoFlu

The main point is that someone like Ian cultivated an audience of people that like to make fun of people. Kickstarter Crap and moreso Content Cop, were series that went above critisicm and threw in insults as comedy. If you make content like that, you attract an audiences that likes this stuff and if you then slip up you have to expect to take shit from them, for better or for worse. A happy feel good gaming channel will never get this kind of backlash from their audience because their audience isn't that interested in roasting people, but Ian's audience surely was, same as the audience of anybody whose content is "dunking and laughing on other people"

I think he actually grew a bit as a person through it. It was definitely a dose of reality for him. Something like that will give you a new perspective on what your fandom is. I'm kinda not surprised he got engaged to that girl. It's hard to say what happens behind closed doors, but it seems like she was there for him when everyone was kinda turning on him in a way he clearly didn't expect or want. That'll change your attitude towards a lot of things. But sometimes it takes a long time for someone to find a new stride. I like to think we can all be better people in some way. It's all about finding the ways that matter most to you. I think being an internet persona probably complicates that internal process quite a bit. Another element of that learning experience not to be overlooked. Being a youtuber can stunt you emotionally. Like, you can ride it out and everyone deals with it in their own way, but there is no perfect way to keep it from messing with you and influencing your life in SOME negative way. A lot of people see these changes as sad... burying the hatchet with people who would've been enemies in the days of meaner, edgier comedy. But I think that's in a lull. Maybe one day it will return in a different form. But I think many people's disappointment with him is better directed at the changing times. But only when mixed with the understanding that culture ain't your buddy and it moves all over the place all of the time. Nothing good truly lasts forever and the internet moves quickly. I feel like I've seen dozens of eras in the past decade alone. I think you have to let it go and find it in yourself to just be happy for people sometimes. Maybe then people can be happy for you, and the bitterness takes a backseat. I think this a lesson a lot of us who watched and related to this stuff back in the day really needed. People like to put a sheen on it, but what went down back then wasn't healthy and cannot be sustained indefinitely. People were absorbed into this world in a bad way. It negatively affected their attitudes towards people as a whole. It's so obvious looking back, how many things were normalized. Like, for some people it stops being jokes and starts being serious. And they fed off of that energy. As fun as it could really be, and as many great memories as I will be holding onto, it largely belongs in the past. iDubbz I think tried to move on in a way. And it seems like to this day a lot of his old followers do not share his sentiment. Honestly, I'm not sure who I feel worse for there.

Well let’s face it the 2010s are over and the golden age of KZitem is dead. All the greats are retiring or don’t give a fuck any more. Like PewDiePie just stopped uploading everyday. Ian can’t sustain the same image for ever. People get older and change.

This really brought me down memory lane & one of the golden ages of KZitem. It's sad seeing my subscription list & realizing how many fantastic creators either quit entirely or changed so much their fanbase quit on them. I took a peek at idubbbz' latest video (the documentary with Sam Hyde) & his new liberal simp persona is so cringe it completely outshined Hyde's edgelord cringe. I couldn't get through even 15 minutes of it. Some things are better off left as memories...

@@EthanPineapple If he actually matured!...not became a woke sellout pleaser etc. Thing is I believe he was mature off camara at the peak of fame...his comedy was unironic coupled with commonsense/self-respect and in some cases dishing out justice accordingly when it was needed. Idubbbz now is the opposite of mature and someone you can neither respect or take really seriously as a down to earth individual...hes more interested in (anything and everything goes no matter how cheap/seedy or dirty) being a submissive lap dog to the left than being someone who stands up to insanity which the left represents ironically. Personally in his shoes regardless of the millions I made and that potentially coming to an end...I would of stuck to my guns and told YT to go F themselves (along with my partner merely suggesting onlyfans included) even if that resulted in termination...at least I would have gone down being true to myself/honorable...and my audience/subs would of respected that.

The problem with iCuckkkz is that he didn't "mature". He completely erased his identity to become Anisa's boyfriend. From him calling out the e-thots for what they are to then be "cool" with his girlfriend being one? Nah dude. I will never respect a man that'll trade what makes him him to appease his partner. Therefore, simp. Now he cries because his actions lead him to become the last victim of content cop.

I really don't think "Cancelation" is the right word to use in this situation. A cancelation normally entails an appeal to authority of some kind, for example the target's employer or the site the target is one (i.e. Twitter, KZitem etc.) in order to hurt the target's ability to create content. Nobody went to Ian's YT page and reported it for this reason (sure some might have left negative comments or reported him for something else just for the troll) but nobody tried to get him booted off KZitem/Twitter for his GF having an OF. What happened to Ian was a boycott. The difference being that it was a straight "Viewer vs Creator" battle, not "Viewer trying to make the Site battle the Creator" one.
@brahtrumpwonbigly7309
2 жыл бұрын
Wasn't even much of a boycott. It was more of a "I don't have a reason to watch anymore".

@NoFlu
2 жыл бұрын
@@brahtrumpwonbigly7309 well yea, that's basically a boycott, a consumer reaction, doesn't have to be a protest or something, a boycott is not consuming product X i.e. walking away. People saw in Ian somebody with certain ideals and values. The situation showed this isn't the case and people made their voices heard (impolitely but still). As the other reply said, this event coinciding with the change of content just made some people not want to watch his stuff

Simple: youtube became more sanitized, Idubbbz had to slowly drop the overbearing edge, a lot of his audience began to lose interest in his content, and the onlyfans thing put a nice little bow on top of the whole thing. It’s not his fault, really (except the onlyfans thing).

This was a really good video- Seriously, I can't praise you enough with the editing. It's very nice to look at but it's not too flashy or distracting from the narration, and elaborated enough to complement it Not really criticism, but i think if you could add the youtube sections thingy on your videos I'd be really good! It's actually really useful and especially on mini-documentaries or commentary videos. But it could have a change on your scripts maybe so it's fine if you don't decide to! Also, the conclusion of the video was also a good ending. Since the whole weird simp thing came out it left a bitter feeling in me even if I didn't care much, It was sad that a titan of youtube I've followed in all its glory is now being clowned? So again, that ending was actually really nice to hear, we all just grew up.
