Here is what happened to KMART. Checkout is ungodly slow with their junk 90s computers. Checkout is the last impression you leave on a store. It is also a labor cost if you can't process transactions quickly or have wonky errors. Every store should have a modern computer at least duo or quad core. Like how is it that I can go to a costco and checkout with $800 worth of stuff in under 2 minutes? Like for real. Why would anyone ever go to a KMART? Target is cool with me not using bags and just throwing crap in my cart for me to throw in my trunk. Walmart bags things fast in that spinny thing and charges me per bag fast. Costco the fastest.
@Meowmeow.age.6
7 жыл бұрын
K-Marts refusal to update their checkout experience for 20+ years. Refusal to have a section that is like going to Ross (they could have been Ross easily by clearance out last season's fashions). Refusal to be a better pharmacy and have mail deliveries. K-MART insisted on being a bigger than and at the same time worse version of WAL-MART. Wal-mart attacked the supply / shipping / handling / reducing costs to make products, etc side of the spectrum in order to lower prices / make more money. Kmart just stood still and did nothing.

To say that Kmart "quickly went into decline after Kresge's death" is false. Kresge died in 1966, at the age of 99, only 4 years after the first Kmart opened in 1962. He had not been calling the shots at the company for some time The largest and fastest expansion of the company and its profits occurred much later. The decline began much later as well. Also, there is nothing wrong with the company's on line web presence--the site works just fine.

To be honest, I've always loved going to K-mart and miss it. I'm glad that Lampert kept the stores keen to the 90s...reminded me of my childhood and I'm not one for change. Unfortunately though, times are changing and it seemed that this became K-mart's demise. But for anyone who wants to take a blast to the past and visit the 90s all over again, find a local K-mart!

Many Kmarts have never been updated and still use old fashioned Cash Registers. My childhood Kmart closed in December 2014. Now that everyone shops at Walmart and online, no one goes to Kmart/Sears anymore. They recently announced an additional 28 Kmarts will close this fall. Sears Holdings is in serious financial trouble. They may be all gone by 2019.

Hit some correct points in the video.... Very simple though, in the 80's is where the decline began.... The founders of S.S. Kresge co and those execs from that era began retiring and passing away in the late 70's and early 80's. Their core business and success up to that point was concentrating on every day staples that we all need and use daily.... The replacement execs didn't follow that philosophy and started sucking profits to purchase Builders Square, Sports Auth, Office Max, Borders, a bank and more... They ignored their core business and started drifting.... Harry Cunningham is probably rolling over in his grave. He was in charge and large for many years and unfortunately his replacements did not understand the business, only money for their pockets.... The corporate raiders started coming in and pilfering the company with no improvement to anything but their golden parachutes and what they could line their pockets with... There are names of CEO's that took advantage of this and have Kmart blood in their wallets.... More dispicable are all the members of the board of directors for lining their pockets and hiring these criminal execs......... That's the short version and everything else is in-between the lines which ultimately led to it's demise starting in the early 80's.... Later on removing the cafeteria and deli counters and replacing them with fast food franchises further destroyed the image.... Who can't look back and say they enjoyed and purchased tons of those submarine sandwiches..... They had a taste of their own and everyone loved them....

She receives emails on a regular basis from her superiors, asking her to do just ridiculous thinks to boost moral and to encourage a fun atmosphere. Even though their employees there are just utterly miserable. Underpaid is the least of their problems. Her latest email from her higher ups was an order fr her to ask an employee to do a spontaneous "happy dance", which she is supposed to record and upload on their version of Facebook.Instead of giving raises they give you these really stupid T-shirts that many if you've seen. They are disgraceful company that has no clue what they're doing. If they did they would not be failing. There's no reason for them to be in this state, it's pure mismanagement

Yep, I've watched all of Mike's videos and they're quite entertaining! I do think that there aren't that many similarities between the two videos though. In fact, to me they're essentially compliments. In our video we dig pretty deep into the historical matter at hand, whereas Company Man's decline videos are more meandering and serve better as overviews. It's also worth noting that we've been planning this video since Zara, and while we did adjust somewhat to not overlap with Mike's take, I feel like this video definitely adds a lot of substance on the topic.

Eddie Lampert and his higher ups are on a bonus program with this company. No matter what they make money. They do it in at Amway sort of way by squeezing the associates and speculating on the land that all the Kmart rest on. You see Kmart bought property away from the city centers, anticipating suburban growth. That was the brilliance of the company back in the 50s and 60s. And these guys are just land speculators you were cashing in on that.
