The problem with these companies (and I have a Tonal and a Speediance Gym Monster) is that they are very expensive so they need a population that both has significant disposable income and an interest in fitness. Further, they need to be interested in tech fitness rather than plates and the like. Once that population is satisfied, they can only rely on subscription services. I'd like to have the cable tower but at home, there's no room and hence Tonal works, at my office there's also not sufficient room the cable machine would be a distraction to others. If you think about other large purchases (say, cars, large appliances), new models come out with new features, they wear out, etc. and owners replace them. Unfortunately, similar considerations don't work as well for Tonal, Peloton, Bowflex, etc. I don't think their financial problems can be entirely attributed to mismanagement.

I think Peloton is on the brink of a renaissance. They are constantly integrating new and different aspects to the app. Also the hardware is top notch.

Peloton's biggest problem is the chunk of cash they demand for their monthly subscription - $44 per month for 'all access' is shocking. It never ceases to amaze me that these companies don't recognize that if you charge $4.99 per month, they would draw 50x as many subscribers; every one of whom buying their equipment first. What good are $44 subscriptions if people think it too much to ask and no one subscribes?

Makes sense in theory, but Apple Fitness Plus doesn’t cost much more than that and as far as I know is only moderately successful. I understand that they don’t release anywhere near the same volume of classes as Peloton, but I think it still illustrates that a lower price doesn’t guarantee limitless subscribers. All that said, I think I agree with you in part and that they could maybe find a better sweet spot in lowering cost but drawing in more subscribers.

The difference in the equipment and Peloton is the instructors. You are comparing apples to oranges. The instructors are what keeps, at least us coming back.

Im a big fan of Peloton and hope they do well. But in terms of the company's health and current management, it's never been worse. Hopefully they can fix the issues.
