Defenders of Yugoslavia, and their successors in the Yugoslav Wars.
1991. Croatia wants rid of themselves from the Yugoslav nation. The country, and its soldiers, rally up in defiance against Slobodan Milosevic and his government; this is in what would be called the 1991 Croatian War of Independence. Serbia, and its allies, with troops from Republika Srpska launch a invasion campaign into Croatia to counteract a potential counter-attack from the Croatian Army. Additional to the troops were the attack and bomber aircraft that were operated by remnants of the Yugoslav Air Force, and later the Air Force of Serbia and Montenegro (otherwise known by the abbreviation RV i PVO, or "Yugoslav War Air Force").
1999. Kosovo enters the war with Serbian forces; and NATO decides that it will pursue with a large-scale bombing campaign against Yugoslavia as a whole. Belgrade's landscape was lit up with anti-aircraft flak fire, and the sky turned a shade of bright orange each time a NATO aircraft passed; people dashed into cover, to avoid being struck by stray shrapnel or being a victim of misguided rocket attacks.
The US, and its allies, in NATO bombed Yugoslavia against guidelines devised by the UN; making it not only an illegal bombing, but also showed that Yugoslav and Serbian forces were always on standby and always ready to sacrifice their lives for their livelihoods.
