In this episode we're looking at the character design of Cecil Harvey from Final Fantasy IV.
FF4 was a transformational approach to gameplay design and narrative design at Squaresoft. Through the character of Cecil who begins the game as a Dark Knight before going through a redemptive character arc at Mt Ordeals to become a Paladin, we have a renewed focus on character stories that changed the course of Final Fantasy, and makes the Final Fantasy IV story one of the most interesting to date. In this discussion we break down the elements of Cecil's design and how that influenced not just FF4's story and gameplay, but future Final Fantasy's to come.
