@@SoCalFreelance First, the new 33 is supposed to serve as a landmark for the future of Alfa Romeo design. They made a choice to make the lines or lashes motif part of that new identity. I don't think it's bad or good, but I do think it works on the front headlights. They needed to find a way to give the front lights a large profile like the original, but didn't want them to feel dated. They also needed some of that space for air intake.

The Ronin looks simply wrong, like you said a mix of everything that at the end produces just confusion. I think in terms of design the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale it's like a Master Class of design for the whole world. I dunno, Frank. 🤔 I look at the Ronin and I think "Did someone ask an AI program to come up with a more futuristic Mazda RX-8?" and those wheels are so disconnected from the overall design language they kinda hurt my brain. For such an expensive car you would expect something a bit more audacious, that grabs you immediately. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that Fisker is getting his brand out there - because electrification is the way forward whether we like it or not. I have been a huge fan of Mr Fisker since the Aston Martin DB9. Arguably, the most perfect-looking car ever. As for the Ronin, I wouldn't call it as perfectly proportioned. Having a 4-door convertible means you'll have an extra long cabin which eats into the front hood, making it too short. It doesn't have that stretch-out acceleration feel like a Star Trek Voyager when engaging the warp drive. Compared to the classic proportions of a Berlinetta, the Ronin looks like the top part came from a much larger vehicle than the bottom. Besides, a sporty four-seater will always have an issue with the rear headroom. You either have to make a car really big to mask the occupants inside (like Gemera or Maserati GranTurismo), or you make it a Shooting Brake. Fisker chose neither. He just put a very vertical rear glass that doesn't flow into the body nicely. Ferrari Portofino does have a nice transition between a convertible roof and the body. Ronin doesn't. There, you asked for an opinion :) PS. I'd love to hear what you say about the new 33 Stradale. In my opinion, it suffers from the clash of two different design styles. Curvy old one mixed in with sudden hard shapes usually found on contemporary Lamborghinis. It's still pretty, with amazing details (rear taillight casing mimicking old air outlet), but those sharp lines are bothering me too much
@paskowitz

In regards to the 33, I think the clash between the old and the new is pretty much unavoidable. You're basically just copying the old design and not innovating If you don't have that conflict.

@@paskowitz I disagree. All those sharp lines (3 in the headlights, on the hood, on the rear glass) could've been smoothed out, and all would be fine. While I'm at it, the bottom part of the front is cut off too soon. The abrupt edge is too close to the headlights. I would've curved it under, rather than having a sharp edge. Also, the bottom inside corner of the headlights, the one next to the central intake, is also suddenly squared off. Really odd.

Nothing outside and inside of them does appear to be distinctive in my eyes; all generic stereotypical EV aesthetics. Completely agree with you Frank about the coupe's design. I was and still am a huge fan of the original Fisker Karma and will occasionally see one here in LA and it's as eye-catching now as it was the first time I saw it and none of these designs, coupe or others do that for me, worthy of a head turn. If I had to guess why that is though, these new designs looking more generic EV styling, seeing what happened with his original Fisker Automotive brand, Henrik wants to give this new venture every possibility to succeed even though the styling of the Karma was one of the best things it had going for it and was probably the least reason the company overall failed but still, I think with the styling of these new cars, he wants to appeal to as many people as possible which is understandable from a business view. It's just for a fan of his former work, it's not anywhere near as exciting and I am not now and likely won't be in the market for an EV in the near future but the Pear and Ocean are about as good as any in that segment to consider if I was in the market for one, nothing outstanding but gets the job done, not much of a compliment but about as much you'll get from me towards an EV SUV.

That's the thing though - you dismiss the value of the nose of a car being necessary for impact, but it is actually essential. It's the one facet of a car that has to absorb huge impact in a frontal collision - which is the majority of collisions, and it's the one facet where you can actually build in decent crumple zone which can dissipate energy over a much longer time period. I wouldn't drive a car that didn't have a decent nose - especially a fast car.

First of all. The Fisker Ocean competition isn't Tesla. Every newcomer, every vaporware company, every nobody starts directly to claim they are tesla competitor. Jaysus. To be a Tesla competitor you need a LONG LONG time to prove you are actually that. Tesla is the top dog in EVs, their tech is far superior to any from the other manufacturers, very good performance and very good efficiency,. Their design is meh, but not ugly. Fisker has already proven to be a low quality, a low reliability, a high risk name. Now, that it's a 100% chinese car, is even more despicable to claim any Tesla competition. They have presented several car models, but they don't even have a mass production for ONE. DO we know of anyone else like this?! Yes. Nikola. Another vaporware brand that promised the moon and the sky, and it ended up being one of the largest financial scams in the auto industry. They also had presented several models, without even having a single mass produced vehicle. ... Lets take Tesla. Before expanding with several car models, they had already a mass produced vehicle, Model S. And then, they presented model X, to complete the range, and then model 3 and then model y. This new releases needed several years before launching a new model. Fisker is a 100% risk, only simple minded people would put their money with this brand. No, first you make 100.000 cars and sell them traditionally, not preorders and scam like that. You make the cars and then independent testing reveals they are good and normal cars, no major defects or minor manufacturing defects, and then you start showing you are ok brand, and with low prices for what you offer, to expand your sales. And after you've sold like 2-500.000 cars of a first model, to make a brother model of it (like model 3 and model y) and slowly grow and continue with high quality, and no problems for owners. One very important aspect is the network for servicing, repairing, upgrading, etc, they lack completely. Even Tesla is severely suffering on this aspect. Let alone the Fisker nobody brand.

Other car designs trying to get attention... Alfa Romeo design team: "It would be a shame if something were to happen to that... 🤌" 33 Stradale has to be the next video. Definitely one of the best, if not the best, super car designs in the last decade. The rear diffuser is the only element that I feel could have used a bit more attention (exposed gearbox and exhaust). I think this was likely due to specific engineering requirements like the rear crash structure or packaging for both the electric and ICE drivetrains. Aerodynamics as well. Perhaps the interior is a bit lacking in luxury appointments compared to Pagani or Koenigsegg but i dont think that was the intent given the sparten nature of the original car.

The 'Ronin' looks like a car with a side profile that's out of scale, those tiny rear door look odd relative to the overall design. 7:57, the three-quarter front view reminds me of a Photoshopped Porsche Taycan as the base design with an added Z8 hardtop, the rear three-quarter looks like an awkward mashup. The front, in the darkened setting (only here at 7:07) get tiny vibes of the BMW GINA, but the Fisker badge on the rear looks way too large imo. You know what else is boring and lacking any brand identity? Nio. But Nio still manages to execute their designs beautifuly somehow. So I was once again excited when Fisker anonced a coupe. What could possibly go wrong when making a coupe, the sexiest possible car shape? Well, somehow they made it mediocre. Mazda RX-8 Vibes, but executed less exciting, 8 years later. Disappointing. With the Ocean, sorry to disagree Frank, but the design is not one that would only appeal to the young. Good stylish design is just that. Did you say Henrik part designed Aston Martins in the 2000's, a period when they really had style, what happened now? As critique, overall, I like the design of the Ocean except I don't understand why the hip at the back door that carries on past the C pillar to the rear window. Following this line then winds up with a letterbox rear window that is useless. Also don't like the hexangular plastic grill inserts on the Ocean and that has carried through to the Ronin as it looks tacky as a design element. Unfortunately, I just see the Ronin as a mess. Clunky in the front view and everything from the rear door back is just not working even with the clunky front. I would like to know wheel size used. The Ronin is not a $400,000 car when style is considered. Wouldn't you love to get into their design studio way back at clay model stage? The Ronin is a bit disappointing. It's like you said the design is not cohesive. It seems to have a slightly masculine stance, but feminine curves. I think masculine and feminine can work well together sometimes, but not here. I don't really like the rear quarter window shape and the "pillarless" look of the A pillars doesn't work as well as I have seen it work on other cars. The line halfway down the door looks like an after thought, like it wasn't there originally and Henril thought it looked to plain, so he put a line there to add more surface detail. It certainly doesn't look like a $385,000 car.

SUVs just combine the worst of both worlds in one car in my opinion. low floor clearance so you can't offroad but (in case of normal engines) high fuel consumption. oh and you can't see shit that's less than 5 meters in front of your car. just why. i hope whoever made the first SUV hates them just as much

After 100 years, I think we’re all at the idea that it’s just a car. Park, drive, go. No real excitement anymore, Toyotas are good….

I see some damn sexy EV roadsters coming down the line. Namely the 2025 Mazda MX-5 EV and Honda S2000 EV. Hopefully Nissan and Toyota throw in their own two-seater designs, and it will be like the 1990's JDM era all over again.

Being brutally honest, I don't like any of the Fisker brand designs. I think they look like weird Chinese electric cars or a generic startup concept. Not a big fan

Design looks similar to what french manufacturers have done, organic shapes and quirky flow. Floating roof into a sloaping c pillar. Makes you look at the detail more.

I like the Ronin, but I'm not a potential customer. I like things with a sort of rational look, as in contained and to the point. "Rational" is often considered the antithesis of interesting design, but I think "rational-looking" is another desirable trait besides masculine and voluptuous, like a humanized robot look.

The Z8 is a timeless car put it next to any rodester and you can see that he cracked the code of timeless design, unfortunately i agree with your review, its obvious.

I think Fiskar did a brilliant job with Aston Martin. His own desgins are nice but its not exciting in a way that other cars make me feel. Maybe he needs to build his brand the way Ferrari or Lamborghini, etc have done over generations. Even small volume exotics like Pagani and Koenigsegg have a very recognisable brand. You might be lucky enough to see a Pagani drive past you in the street once in your life, but if you do you'll know it was a Pagani.

Thank you for the honest opinion. I am not and was never a fan of Henrik Fisker as a designer. He’s one of the most overrated designers in history in my opinion. His taste is cheesy, unoriginal and definitely uninspiring.

It's amazing that the older Karma looks so much more sophisticated and contemporary than the almost 2 decades newer Ronin. I think it's a disaster of a design in every facet.

They can make the shells as gorgeous as all get out but until they can catch up to Tesla with what goes on under the floor they are just pretty skateboards.

The Ronin was best viewed from above - like that you could see a much more cohesive design, considering track and wheelbase. Rear three quarter looked awful imho. Canopy being too far forward for one. The thing that gets me about EV designs is that no-one is doing anything more than normal with the advantage of packaging of motor/fuel now. Difficult to say but out of all the designs; I thought the Karma looked the best...

The Fisker cars you spoke about here are interesting especially in the case of the OCEAN, many lets call them Fisker Land Rover design cues included - that needs to be separated out although a designers signature needs to be strong and follow through his projects - the OCEAN looks like a LR evolution but likely is not delivered with 3 spare gearboxes.... There have for several months been 'many' advertisements in the Motorsport Jobs and RaceStaff websites, possibly also on similar sites across the US, Asia and Europe too, so high demand for experienced and ambitious automotive engineers. Frank, Is there a possibility for you to do a video about the BMW / Toyota Keizen technology arrangement and also how that influenced your approach to the MINI? Lastly, please ask BMW to let you design the next X3... please, please, please ! (smiles and laughs).
