Nah, the permafrost is melting and just below are all the viruses and methane stored up over centuries. Methane is 20x as potent as CO2 and thus will cause a cascading effect when released causing the viruses such as the black death to return. Likewise, the water levels will rise, conventional crops like rice will no longer be able to grow due to temperature changes and society as we know it will self destruct. The "Root cause" of this planetary chaos and devastation is "White-people" with their single minded psychopathic greed and its resultant imperial-capitalism. The problem is that because white people self-abrogated the leadership of the planet for themselves with their claim of "the white man's burden of civilizing everyone else" and since, there has never been anyone else to put excesses of white behavior in check and O'boi have the whites been rampantly excessive and have never had to be accountable for anything. And ironically to the whites, they think everything they have done on the planet has been progress for everyone but look what they have done to the planet now, it's all phucked-up now! Question is who will take accountability for it, who will clean it up and who will pay the price for it? I wonder what white people see when they look in the mirror. It no longer matters whose fault it is. It only matters what we do about it. To use that old ‘burning house’ analogy: you don’t argue about who started the fire until you’ve put it out. Nor do you argue about who should carry the most water: you just expect everyone to do all they can. The rich nations can do a lot more than poorer nations, and rich people can do a lot more than poorer people. If you’re reading this, in global terms you’re probably rich.
@artfxdnb

It's a classic old case of supply and demand. Factories produce what there is a demand for, and as long as that demand doesn't change, the production also won't. It's easy to say the people with money are responsible, but that is way too simple. As long as humanity keeps demanding the products that destroy our environment, the supply will be there. As long as there is a demand for certain products, there is money to be made. If the demand shrinks, there will be a point the production of that product is not economically viable anymore and that's when production will shift. These days there's a lot of alternatives, especially in the developed countries, which is an option you as a person can use to help shrink the demand for products that destroy our planet. We all have to do our part, that is the way out of this. In the end consumers have the power to speak with their wallet, we consumers are the ones who keep up the demand for certain damaging products, we can do something about this on an individual level.

George Carlin hit the nail on the head (toward the end of his "entropy fan" bit) that next to nobody wants true preserving nature for its own sake. They just want clean surroundings, comfort... and imo the illusion of nature thriving, well enough at least, more than it actually thriving (case in point a lot of people hate predators, but they keep the grazers in check, so it's great for the whole ecosystem) People lust after convenience and feelings/ feeling good, way more than realizing they are essentially nothing in the grand scheme of things- except for maybe part of the problem. We can blame the industries for all they've done, bought out politicians, swindled the people etc... but it's still the overall popular view that this world can just be exploited to the end, &/or is full of everladting abundance (a constantly stocked Costco full of lobster, bottled water, exotic fish, etc., is no Real representation of the trends affecting this planet... and it's probably sad how most people would rather have those 'artificial abominations' than wild pristine wetlands/ coasts/ etc.) That mindset is just as toxic, if not worse, to the planet than the evil most destructive corporations

The process of reconstructing all the infrastructure alone would put more CO2 into the atmosphere than we are making right now. Besides the atmosphere is controlled by solar forces and not greenhouse gases. This was proved by how little the earth cooled during this pandemic. It did cool a small amount due to the pandemic, however it should've ccooled much more according to most climate models.

There's one solution that would solve all of these problems **POPULATION CONTROL** ...These seem to be dirty words no one wants to talk about. But, this should be a serious part of the climate crisis conversation. No matter how much we cut CO2 and methane, drive electric cars, use renewable energy, etc, etc... As our populations grow, we will always be playing catch up, and chasing the tipping point, if we don't get a grip on the Earth's population!

The earth is 4 billion years old. The universe is 14 billion years old. I’m sure that there have been at least two other civilizations on other planets before us that have also failed for similar reasons. Polluted themselves out of existence through greed and factionalism. And I’m sure they saw it coming to. But you can’t stop the resource scarcity induced evolutionary flaw of avarice. Thankfully, it’s unlikely we exterminate all of earth’s life with us.

Judging from the Initial comments people had an issue with the audio but personally I found this to be a solid piece of informational nuance. I certainly consider a more practical approach to sustainability and farming because this documentary shows impact’s from the dominating doom methodology that’s in place. I hope the wild fire victims who have had to deal with them are well enough to rebuild their lives. Sometimes while woven through the heart of doom one can lose all solution to these anthropocene tendencies so thanks to Vice for illuminating the world.

Wars are far more likely if there are major forces driving human suffering. Drought, famine, mega fires, heatwaves, floods, storms, and then the millions of refugees that follow. In the modern era, the environment and war are intrinsically linked and cannot be separated.

@@kathryncasey4114 yes, Karen, I did intend to use the word epic. I’m sorry to have confused you🤣but the emoji totally make it sound like you’re not being as stuck up about how smart you are😊🙃 If you don’t get what I mean, I’m trying to say that the word Anthropocene is really interesting, because it is applicable and I haven’t thought of that word myself. I guess we have different views on what logophile truly means, I’m not much of a dictophile myself so I’m not sure what you mean tbh. How would epic be used in a different way, or are you just calling me out for using it wrong? If you don’t mean that then are you referring to my comment at all? Cuz I don’t see any connection to what you said and what I said.

Correct, the buzzy bees re dispearing fast, the small birds that usually eat the bugs are dying out . We the glyphosates, weed killers gsm impregnated seeds are killing them off. There is a level for humans and most animals, a balance of ph acid, within the air, within the land, the wate, once you shift the balance you shift health, life smallest effected first. We, thevplanet, the crops we grow for food are carbon starved, we need more carbon, then we can cut out synthetic fertilisers, and use natural stuff like cow farts, cow poo, its better if dug in. And kept as a closed biosystem, just break the surface to plant, instead of turning the soil over, then the bio system under ground does more good. And feeds the crops and cleans up the toxic chems sprayed on crops. It will take time, but its better than lymphoid cancer from glyphosates. Dont you think.
