I never doubt Stevie Y on player personnel. He has excellent scouts around him and listens to them. Not only is he good in the draft, and he is amazing there, but he also sees players that are undervalued by the teams that have them. He finds ways to get them on the Red Wings for little cost other than salary. On top of that, he finally has the salary cap issues fixed. They aren't a top team yet, but I sure like the direction they are headed!

The Detroit Red Wings are a dynasty in the making. The stable of D prospects is unmatched, the pipeline of W's is complete, 2 young potential franchise goalies, and once we get our #1C in next years C heavy draft the rebuild will be all but complete. There will be nothing more left to do but sit back and watch the rise to glory. Stevie needs some kind of lifetime achievement award for this rebuild alone because if was out-worldly and the fact it was done in such a short time is just unheard of. Truly makes me speechless when thinking about it. I just shake my head and thank God Detroit's prodigal son, the Cap Stevie Y, chose to come home!

you're right, all their prospect pool is missing is the 1C. i don't think they make the playoffs this year, but perhaps next year they do. as for yzerman, he would have stayed if holland knew when to leave. the oilers' success is in spite of him. somehow koskinen hasn't stepped on his own dick this year and connor and leon score 2 points a game. anyway, yzerman's building a team that will be deep everywhere. he had nothing in net and in a week he picks up nedeljkovic and cossa for nothing. he saw that don waddell is a retard and took advantage. i wish my habs would hire someone smart like that, but no, it's more important that they're french than that they're good at the job. it's fucking idiotic to handicap yourself unnecessarily. i also wish my team would, on occasion, actually give a shit. they've been playing with exactly none of the effort we saw in the playoffs last year. this is why teams like detroit will build winners while my shitty team remains mediocre for decades.

I'm glad the Wings have built this after their deserved #1 pick in the draft was stolen. They didn't have to stink up the league like Pittsburg or Edmonton and "win" the draft lottery in back to back years to draft and develop skilled players, or poach them off other rosters. Yzerman was drafted at the end of the "Dead Wings" era from the late 70's to the early 80's and was part of a dynasty as a player. I hope to see it again with Stevie Y as a GM!

How many times has a team who "won" the draft lottery gone on to become a contender? How did that work out for the Buffalo Sabres? Draft lottery winners are terrible because the whole organization is a train wreck, and they're terrible before and after signing the number one draft pick. There are numerous mechanisms which prevent the league from becoming overly lopsided; the draft lottery is just not one of them.

I think Detroit in general has a bright future. Cade Cunningham on the pistons is looking great Don't have faith in the Lions at all, but I have to give the management there some credit as they did have a good draft this year. If they continue to make good draft selections, then obviously they could be a competitive team a few down the line from now and obviously the red wings are just looking great

You're right about the couple of highlights for Ken Holland but he was pretty awful after Datsyuk retired.

He was mediocre at best once the salary cap was introduced. When he had an open pocketbook, he could just out-spend the other teams for the best free agents. But, within a budget, he was out of his depth.

Not really understanding how you count taking on Panik's expensive contract as a plus for the Wings. He was on waivers the week befor the trade and neither Yzerman nor any other GM in the league wanted him. One of the picks the Caps gave away was payment for the Wings taking him off their books and yet you describe it as Yzerman cleverly managing to aquire Panik. Getting a pick for taking him on was good (and a no-brainer DET had the cap space while WSH didn't), but stop making it sound like he managed to aquire Panik.

Firstly, didn't watch the video, mainly because, the Minnesota Wild is the future of the NHL. Granted, Detroit will be a perennial playoff team and Stanley Cup contender. Best of luck to both franchises

I do and i don't agree with the video. A major part is undiscussed, it's contracts and cap. Bertuzzi isn't signed longterm and will become expensive. Huge decisionshave to be made to tie up with Nedjelkovic, Bertuzzi, Larkin, Fabbri long term - or part ways. The Wings did do well on prospect development, Seiders path was exemplatory on how to slowly build and develop talent. A huge bonus is that Rasmussen made the jump in the NHL. But, and that's a big but: The whole left side of their defense is up for contracts, neither Leddy nor Staal nor Dekeyser is signed, all are UFA. The Wings are not a playoff team. It's likley they will sell Leddy and or Staal (NMC) and Stecher if there's a market, same might be true for Greiss, Fabbri, Namestikov, Gagner if there's a market. Also their offense is lacking talent, in terms of a strong 2nd center, and it's unclear if Larkin is one of the better No. 1 centers in the league. The Wings still need to add elite talent upfront, which they should aquire this coming draft. The wings are not build for sucess this and the following year, and with all the contracts that are coming up, Yzerman has still a lot of work to do, with a chance to ruin the good perspective the wings have for now.

i find it funny that you think that the left side of the defense is not signed beyond this year- not sure if you have watched them play or not - but parting with them is not a bad thing at all . You are absolutely correct about needing talent upfront IMO . They are still a couple years / players away - perhaps he can land on one of his huge win trades - like Sergachev for Drouin , or Vasilevskiy for kyle quincey - still an all timer if you are a detroit fan

Dude, what are you smoking? No sense to even read pass your first sentence to know your logic is seriously flawed. By the time we have to resign a major player the current dead cap money shouldn't be of concern and Hollands cap atrocities will be virtually all gone so we will be are in position to sign any and every one of our players. Basically your argument is 'I don't agree the Red Wings are the future of the NHL because they will have to re-sign their upcoming army of young studs to second level contracts". Lmao what an bizarre and quite frankly stupid way to look at things😂

Now if only people would have this view more and not want them to make some big trade to make the playoffs. Have to shake my head how much of that I see. This team is no where near ready to make repeated runs. Why would you even want a Cinderella run that sidetracks the rebuild? Patience is not understood really.
