Reading now - or should I say listening to now via audiobook, and I must say at the 30% mark I can tell there’s going to be a lot of romance. I really liked the beginning of the book with her being an underdog and working hard for her education and welfare of her son. I liked the rationale for her wanting to take a marksmanship course which led to her fantastic sniping ability. Alas, I started sending this was going down the romance lane, and I hopped over to KZitem to watch a few reviews. I’ll go ahead and finish the book, but it definitely seems to be one that started strong and fizzled a bit.

You can also read her memoir if you'd like: Lady Death : the memoirs of Stalin's sniper / Lyudmila Pavlichenko ; foreword by Martin Pegler ; translated by David Foreman ; edited by Alla Igorevna Begunova

I'll have to check that out. I know the author mentioned it at the end of the book.

I recently stumbled onto this author thanks to some book recommendation list about historical fiction. Which book would you recommend from Kate Quinn for someone who prefers their historical fiction books to be as close to accurate events as possible? Hearing that this has a bunch of embellishments kinda makes me want to pick something else instead for my first Kate Quinn book.

I would recommend anything by Erik Larson. His books are nonfiction and very accurate but he writes them more like a historical fiction novel than a history book.

Yes a bit over the top...I would prefer a more accurate depiction of her life. Best to read the wikipedia description of her life. And the found ring story at the very end was dumb.
