Half this show is the incredibly great chemistry of these fine actors.

Me too. I first started watching the DVD Show at age four and loved it, even though I obviously could not understand the nuances of the situations. But Alan Brady was and always has been my favorite character in the series. I believe the DVD Show shaped my sense of humor as an adult.

For any sharp-eyed, original Star Trek fans viewing this episode, take note of crewman "Lt. Leslie" (played by Eddie Paskey) who appeared in 58 episodes of original of Star Trek. You'll notice him standing just to the left of Rob & Laurie Petrie's living room front door. In fact, several Star Trek guest actors appeared in The Dick Van Dyke Show over the years. Watch for 'em.

This episode was written by Joseph Bonaduce. He is the father of Danny Bonaduce, aka Danny Partridge on "The Partridge Family." Joseph also wrote a couple of episodes of "That Girl." Interesting that Carl Reiner didn't write this episode of the DVD Show, only because it revolved around Alan Brady.

I don't get why these people don't have the guts to tell their so called friend to limit the party to 5 to ten couples. The whole thing does not make sense. No one throws an anniversary party unless it's your grandparen't 50 year and your neighbors should never take advantage of your generosity in that manner

I agree. Nobody had been invited so the party could have been on Saturday night. This was Rob's job at stake. Millie and Alan were way out of line.

That is a very unkind, unnecessary comment. MTM was always a wonderfully talented actress. You can bet that if her looks were less than 100%, she was going through some personal issue, that may have impacted how she appeared. She went through a lot of difficult times in her life. Time for some compssion, and no judgment.

7:59, "Pure, unadulterated trash!" I've always wondered why we Americans use that redundant expression. Isn't that like saying, "Pure, pure, trash."? unadulterated; pure unmixed unsullied untainted unpolluted uncontaminated virgin untouched - Granted, I wasn't the English teacher's pet, but I think I'm correct here, no?
@spencerlee4181
Жыл бұрын
It's an extension of a common advertising ploy in merry olde England, back when unscrupulous bakers and others used to use clay, or chalk, or other more harmful adulterants in food to raise their margins. As the public cottoned on to such tactics in Victorian times due to the wider availability of newspapers and the growing literacy rate, companies started emphasizing the purity of their foodstuffs with the double adjectives. Also, the word "unadulterated" doesn't just imply purity, it is an explicit statement that at *this* bakery, we don't try to poison our customers for profit. So, "pure, unadulterated" entered the language as an idiom, and is here applied ironically to "trash."
