Wow, that was an amazing explanation of dense information in a way I could understand. Thank you for sharing this video. The feedback I would offer is displaying the note animation on a fret board background instead of a notepad background because it would be more helpful in explaining which note in the pattern is flattened and what the change is made in the corresponding pattern.

Finally...after centuries of waiting....This critical principle explained coherently without making it unnecessarily complex to scare away people. Best of all, besides the drummer jest, was the fact your first example of WWHWWWH starts with something besides damn C major. It does NOT simplify the process to always introduce this idea in a scale with no sharps ...it only confuses people later on and adds another layer of confusion and intimidation when that mysterious notion of the sharp or flat comes in. Get used to it people immediately! Something exists besides a natural half-step!.....At least that's my experience when I first got curious, at a very late age, about scales and "what is the theoretical basis of a minor or 13th or diminished" etc....and then when I actually had a few of my own students...I really tried to simplify it and found everyone expected a guitar was like a (contemporary?) player piano with some kind of built in chip that would play the song if you brought your hand in a horse-hoof shape near the neck and put some sort of grimace on your face.....and by contorting your face more, in all too genuine pain and confusion because the dreaded notion of WORK was now entering the mystic equation........more complex ideas would automatically magically play themselves....Big Thanks!

Soo close! A minor chord is the 1st, 3rd and 5th notes IF you start on the 6th note of the scale and think of that as the 1. OR The 1st and 5th notes of a scale with a 'flat' 3rd.

So super quick question Sean. If I apply the pattern WHWWHWW to a C major scale in the key of C (CDEFGABC) than I have a C minor scale right ? So did you just made the example of Am since they share some notes ? Thanks for your videos man you really helping me learn some theory finally ! Hope ya get to 1M soon! :D @zepvalue
@seandaniel23
8 жыл бұрын
Yup exactly man. I think one way I'd like you to think differently about it is that you're not applying 'WHWWHWW' to a C major scale, you're just starting that sequence off on a C note, thus giving you the C minor scale. The reason I picked A minor to go with C major is that every major scale has a minor scale that matches up with it. So like the major scale is WWHWWWH, now if you started reading those letters on the 6th note (the last W in that string of letters) you'd get WHWWHWW, which is the minor scale. So the minor scale is really just the major scale staring on the 6th note, and the 6th note in C major, is A, so A minor. Hopefully that helps my man!

@seandaniel23

Well everything is basically the same but the chords start on the 6th note of the major scale. So in A minor, the 2nd chord would the diminished one.
