Who is going to regulate the regulators. When the EU GDPR imposes a fine or penalty on a U.S. based organization, who administers said fine and how are those funds directed.

There's such a lack of data protection out there, that a shockingly high amount of identity theft cases happen because of leaks by store clerks/managers, selling information like social security and bank account numbers to the highest bidder, because on top of lack of data protection laws and the public scrutiny mechanisms for their enforcement, to track whatever happens with that information, Americans use credit cards like we use debit ones here at the other side of the pond for everyday purchases, and the process for anybody, even celebrities, to be allowed to extend credit cards to people and thus, gather their personal information as well, is insultingly easy and unregulated. In the end, it all depends on how short a leash you tie capitalism on.
