I love altered notes of the extended chords. Your revelation of the half-whole-tone scale notes, accentuating the colorful altered chord tones really impressed me! Thank you for that revelation of "why" the scale sounds so hip!

John, Excellent presentation and explanation that does demystify those Dims!! The exercises will take quite a while, but perfect learning tool.

Easy to understand. Exercising through the chords and scale combinations was A+ for grasping the relationships.

Thanks for the great video! I found it useful to practice the three scales simultaneously by working my way up a chromatic progression.

That was fantastic, John. I knew the three scales before, but today learnt so many new things theoretically which up to now I had to find out by ear and more randomly. Now I know how I can trace the chords easily that the three dim. scales fit with. Tomorrow I will be at the piano again and try the exercises and improv 🙏

Merci for this. I'm one month in on learning the piano, so this is out of my pay grade. But I always think it's good to have a little bit of knowledge on all the arrows in the quiver.

Very cool! Today I realize how I missed out when I was young. My training was 100% classical. I wouldn’t have hurt to have a little jazz theory mixed in.

Ok, but before I dive in to practice and application, I REALLY want to know why you use finger 2 on the way up on the F# (first scale) but your 3 on the way down???? I’ve seen different variations on this, and I know they theoretically both work, but as a native flute player who’s new second language is keys, fingering principals always trip me up. I’m always afraid that if I just do it “the way it works best for me” I’ll run into a reason down the line why I should’ve been practicing differently. Any enlightenment? I really wish more KZitemrs would go into fingering and why they use the fingerings they do, especially when it’s inconsistent.
