Kat Blaque left a comment here that Blaire needs to grow up, and I’m inclined to agree. Blaire’s KZitem persona and aesthetic screams “High school movie mean girl.” A transgender Regina George, if you will. But Blaire is not a fictional character, she’s a real woman, a grown woman, and no matter how I think about it, her behavior is just unacceptable.

D'Angelo explained really eloquently how people can be racist/transphobic/homophobic without even realizing it. Because they don't fit the stereotype of bigotry, it's hard to understand from the outside that there are still harmful actions and people that don't fall into that model of hate. He's a very good model of how you can realize how your thoughts and actions have hurt other people, correct your behavior, and grow from it.

Like, having the “opinion” that trans people are just confused or brainwashed can definitely he brushed off as just a simple opinion that you can’t change. But it is still transphobic. Having the “opinion” that black people shouldn’t be offended by people saying racial slurs because they weren’t being USED in a “racist context,” again can be brushed off as an opinion, but is still racist because you are speaking over minorities. @@burntgrahamcracker2866 Black face is a term which is used to describe a form of theatrical make-up which is predominantly used by non-black performers in order to represent a caricature of a black person. The fact that it was a joke not only makes it worse but points more to black face in itself. The point of black face is to mock and ridicule caricatures of black people and or black stereotypes. Her caption did exactly that. Mock a black stereotype. The caption made it black face, not the charcoal mask alone.

The trans experience is typically expressed by those who fit a very specific mold- white, passing, traditionally attractive. Blaire White's idea of trans people is entirely based in transmisogyny (if you do not "pass," you are invalid), racism (she has only talked about white trans or nonbinary people), and colonialism (Western definitions of gender and identity). Her trans experience is absolutely valid and is a necessary voice to hear, but her disparaging the voices of other trans people (and I include nonbinary people like myself when I say trans people) only serves to invalidate all of us including herself. It's abhorrent and puts the narrative back by years.

It always amazes me to hear people say that the n word "just comes out of their mouth", or something along those lines, since I've never even cursed in my entire life. If the n word "just comes out of your mouth", it likely means you say it on a daily basis, since, habits are formed through repeated action. For me, that habit is choosing to not curse at all. This excludes anyone with a medically diagnosed condition that is uncontrollable such as tourettes ticks.

I was thriving when Halsey called her out, and now I’m living with this video. I’m nonbinary and I also cannot “transition from one to another” because I’m intersex. I was coerced into taking hormones as a child to look like my assigned (female), and if I looked more masculine I honestly would probably feel uneasy with my body. My experience with gender and sex is so muddy that I have literally no sense of what gender I am, and that’s why nonbinary is comfortable to me. Every time I stumble upon her opinions over nonbinary people, it always brings back the decades of shit subjected to me. I hate the fact that people think she’s a good trans rep, because she throws so many people under the bus for conservative cis brownie points. I’m tired of it and glad people are seeing it now.

I didn’t realize how much internalized transphobia I had until I finally unsubscribed from her. She claims she makes the trans community more “digestible” for all her cis viewers, but what does that even mean? Why do trans people need the approval of cis people to be respected? Honestly, who am I to disagree with a person’s identity? At the end of the day, just respect people! Edit: Sorry guys, I guess I wasn’t completely aware of what “internalized” meant! I’m not trans, I’m cis, but I believed I wasn’t transphobic for the same reasons D’Angelo said. However, upon further reflection, I realized Blaire was feeding into the little part of me that was still transphobic-that’s how I rationalized continuing to view her content. I now realize those beliefs are harmful and am working actively to better educate myself! Sorry if I misspoke 😅

Perhaps because many take it upon themselves to express their distaste for their “lifestyle” by attempting to deprive them of their humanity and equal rights. But of course, there’s the portion of those who do not think the way others do. The ones who need things to be “digestible” before they judge someone purely based on the fact that they are trans when that shouldn’t matter. Either way, I don’t think she should stand on the front lines to make anyone or anything digestible. That in itself implies that trans people are these foreign creatures whose actions evoke the harsh judgement of those who wouldn’t understand. At the time, it was practically true, given that there’s things like internalized transphobia. I think we all need to understand that people we disagree with comes in all shapes, appearances, sexualities and genders.

Yeah, that woman has so much unresolved self-hatred with herself it's sad. I honestly feel bad for her because she can't be truly happy with herself if she is going in on people who have had similar experiences as her transitioning. You would think that she would be more supportive considering she knows firsthand what it's like, but nope, she's way too concerned to pander to her conservative transphobic viewers. For example, I knew something was wrong when Ben Shapiro was praising her......

Your comment is a a bit ambiguous, with the last part seeming to imply you're cisgender. Are you trans yourself? If you are, then it's internalized transphobia. If you're not, then it's subconscious transphobia. Only someone who identifies as something that can have an internalized phobia against that thing.
@abeI__

Your style of commentary is the type I enjoy. It’s actual criticism, not leafy criticism for example: “oh she has ugly makeup” “her voice is annoying”. You don’t do that, you call out lies, hypocrisy and you just state the facts. That’s why you’re so unique.
@ardvark3131
3 жыл бұрын
@lol That's just flat out wrong, though. Leafy doesn't actually criticize, he only insults. With this dude, he may include insults but there are also examples of behaviour or actions that he takes issue with and then explains why. One example of this would be when he criticizes Blaire adding a beard to a trans woman in her thumbnail. Rather than just pointing at it and mocking this action, he goes on to specify why he finds this troubling with reasons like how the thumbnail gives a false idea of the person that was featured in the thumbnail. I guess you'd be right that he comes at this subject from a moral high ground, but that's not the only thing that separates this from leafy's style of video.

@lol I guess I should've been more careful with my words. What I meant was that this guy believes himself to be coming from a moral high ground. I still disagree with you, though. Leafy is pretty bottom tier in terms of morality. I don't think grown men that bully children are very moral.
@ardvark3131
3 жыл бұрын
@lol He hasn't really done anything to show any reform. A simple "I've moved on from this" from Leafy would do away with the bullying kids thing, but this hasn't happened yet to my knowledge so my point still stands. As for what he's currently up to, it's manufactured discontent. Causing a big stir where there really isn't anything, like with women streamers on twitch begging for subs. This is better than bullying kids but it still sucks. Why even defend Leafy? Just say that D'angelo sucks.

I used to love her. She posted an article about trans healthcare that she'd written on her Facebook page a few months back and I respectfully questioned her sources, as none were cited. I even said in my comment that I love her and I just wanted more clarification. Instead of having a conversation with me she put me on blast and made fun of me ( a person with no platform at all ) and encouraged her other fans to dog pile on me. All I did was ask for sources and she freaked out. She can't take criticism. She always has to be right and if you even question her she views you as an enemy.

@Al X. Andra she may not be and more so be insecure in herself. But when I'm not a part of the Trans community and I'm only watching one creator from that community who specifically "doesn't look trans" and they seemingly are constantly shining a big spotlight on the radical examples in said community and I dont do my own due diligence and research those claims or seek out other creators in that community, I really start to have to ask myself "why am I consuming this content specifically?".

@@charliethomlin6434 Thank you! I always believe that people can change for the better, so many people these days seem so hopeless! I needed to hear this from someone else, thank you.
