It sounds absolutely crazy to say, but as someone who has been to Disney (both in Florida and California) many times, Disney outright refuses to make their park experience easy on the average guest. Being an adult with a video camera at Disneyland is only not cringe when you’re doing it to help people not have a mental breakdown over trying to comprehend the convoluted way Disney runs their parks. Luckily none of us are anywhere close to Disney adult level obsession like these people freaking out over characters and stuff like that. But yeah, a day at Epcot as an adult is still a really fun time, and I honestly think even non-Disney people would have a great time at Epcot or Animal Kingdom as an adult. It’s not the regular people who can just have a fun time for a day at a theme park that are the problem, it’s the people who lose their shit over character appearances or special Merch drops and things on a whole different level that make it weird.

theres another wrinkle to the disney adult phenomenon in that they get overly critical of disney since they have their whole sense of identity and happiness invested in it so they expect them to be miracle workers 24/7. They meltdown over things out of their control like random food a kid dropped, and it takes a while for a cast member to see/clean or some peeling paint. When your a kid you would filter petty shit like that out cuz you were taking the park in. Familiarity breeds contempt and disney adults are often the most contempt.
@touch_me.
9 ай бұрын
“familiarity breeds contempt” while that’s true most of the time, there are plenty of people who are perfectly happy doing the same things on repeat because they find new ways to experience that same thing… it’s kinda like playing a video game: if you play the same game the exact same way over and over again it can get boring, BUT there are always more than 1 way to play a game: you could set restrictions/challenges/speedruns for yourself, you could try taking a different path to the same ending, you could seek out a different ending entirely, you could attempt to obtain every collectible, you could play on different difficulty settings, you could use mods, etc… while familiarity *can* breed contempt, you can always make things interesting through trying new things… if you’re in a relationship you can travel around the world and go on plenty of romantic dates to keep things interesting, if you have a job you can volunteer to participate in new projects to keep yourself challenged, if you’re living in a city you can go to new buildings/facilities/businesses around the city to experience new aspects of your city, etc… oh, also, don’t try and do everything all at once: it’s much wiser to take things slow, and do one thing at a time because *that* is how you keep yourself from getting burned out too quickly… when watching a show you should only watch a handful of episodes a day, rather than binging an entire season every day; when dating someone you should dedicate each date to a different activity, rather than doing too many activities in one date… take your time in life: allow your life to span across several years, rather than trying to condense your life into the span of a single week
@RudolphTheRedNosedFox

@@touch_me. that is a valid point you brought up. Though I would argue it's not always a 1 to 1 comparison. With your average guest who visits Disney Land, that does make sense. But these hardcore Disney Adults take the smallest of inconveniences way too seriously, because they *expect* the park to operate exactly how *they* want it to operate. It would be like playing Super Mario Brothers for the 50th time, and then, out of no where, you hear Mario screaming at the top of his lungs because the ground was too dirty.

At the end of last summer, my wife and I took our 4 and 8 year old kids to Disney World in FL. At the end of the day, we (regretfully) found ourselves in yet another gift shop, and as I’m in there trying to fend off my rabid kids every 3 seconds who want me to buy them yet another completely random and horribly overpriced piece of crap, I saw a bunch of Disney Adults forming this massive line that snaked out the door. They all seemed to be facing a woman who appeared to be restocking one of the shelves. I asked someone in line what they were waiting for, because it seemed important, and like 10 of them yelled “HALLOWEEN STUFF!!!” And I tried not to do it, but the urge to audibly laugh out loud and shake my head in disbelief was involuntary. I just couldn’t help it. They were chomping at the bit to get first crack at Disney Halloween stuff. Like, they probably formulated explicit and highly orchestrated plans for being at that exact store at that exact moment in time to face that exact shelving unit to purchase Disney Halloween items. Just think about that.

Went to Disneyland for the first time a few years back for my graduation. It was fun and I certainly don't regret it, but the lines were abysmal and that can really suck the momentum out of your fun (and having to schedule your fast pass rides is stupid). On top of that, I really only wanted to see the Marvel and Star Wars stuff, so about half the park wasn't for me. Still enjoyed the trip overall, though. Way too crowded. By the middle of day two, she just wanted to spend the rest of the vacation at the hotel pool. She’s 8 so she’s the prime age for someone to love Disney but she was just bored the entire time. @@Boggiejonesent I didn’t even think about the fast pass. My kid didn’t even want any pictures with any of the characters or autographs for her autograph book. Other than swimming, the only thing she enjoyed the entire time was the Princess makeover thing and buying an expensive crown. She also had more fun taking her first ride on a plane to get there than any of the rides there. I went when in 1996 so it’s shocking how short the rides are in comparison to the length of the line as an adult. I did notice a lot of those older Disney adult fans this video talks about it and it was just bizarre to me. I also noticed my kid and my sister’s kids aren’t even really into Disney stuff like kids were when I grew up…people can shit on KZitem all they want but the current generation of kids love it. And while yeah I had a good time on the rides and it was pretty funny just spewing different disney trivia that I knew to the other people I was there with, everything outside of that generally just sucked. The prices for food was ludicrous, there wasn't all that many characters to do any signatures with (and tbf my group didn't know that I even wanted to meet the characters so they would run right on by & I would be struggling to keep up), the fastpass line despite being shorter still took a freakishly long time to get through the lines, even something as simple as a keychain I'm pretty sure costed a shiny penny. We were there for three days & had half that time at california adventure, and our disney trip was in half before we went to diet disney. We kept getting lost at the second place because I had nerd knowledge on Disneyland and not california adventure so we were too freaked out about getting lost to really go exploring anything.

there's something so unsettling about the Disney parks specifically. The bright plastic, weird gaudy feel of everything is so sinister to me. Even before you add in the fact that so many of the workers are mistreated, encouraged not to upset guests even as they're SH-ing or SA-ing them (because God forbid the magic is dampened even for a moment✨🌟💫).

As a millennial that can't afford anything..-and who grew up poor listening to other kids talking about going to Disney.. I do understand the certain percentage of adults like me who might get to eventually afford going for the first time, and just being excited about finally going and experiencing it all. I've been to SIx Flags in Georgia and Carowinds, but it doesn't seem like either hold a candle to the immense offerings at Disney. It would be an overload for sure. I've heard other KZitemrs and a whole lot of Boomers saying people in their 30s and such shouldn't even be there unless they have kids. Just let people enjoy things, holy hell. Life is depressing enough as it is. (*NOTE* that's not a jab at Papa Meat specifically. Only at the idiotic gatekeepers against fun.)

My gf in college and her mother are 100% Disney adults. They go, dress up and do every single thing that is available. For 3 people they ended up spending $2k each back in 2009 for like two days. What a weird experience it was. Going around the world was cool though at Epcot, drinking a beer at each place.

I remember when I went to Disney World in Florida for my senior high school trip. I was having the time of my life. Riding fun rides, eating Mickey Mouse shaped waffles for breakfast, meeting my favorite Disney characters. It does make you feel like a kid again. But then my friend told me that there was a huge earthquake in Japan that killed a lot of people. After that, the weird dissonance I felt throughout the rest of my time there was weird. I'll never forget that. Lol

Disney world is definitely a once a year at most experience, especially if you experience it like my family does where we are on the move basically all day as we tour all the parks in the week. It gets a little less enjoyable when you start walking holes into your feet but because of the FOMO routing not allowing rest time, but the attractions do a pretty good job motivating my mom to insist we march on. I will never forget when we caught one of the parades while I was wearing Eevee ears I got at epic (yes, yes, laugh it up now) and they were pointing me out, asking if i was one of the lost boys. Just fun seeing them have the characters be able to react and not be railroaded onto their script.

I'm a big Disney fan. I buy all the movies on blu-ray, get random merch stuff, collect their card game and study their films often. But, I'm also coming at my fandom from an artist's perspective, as I've been actively studying the Disney style and trying to improve in it as a working art professional. I've never been to Disney land and probably will never go. I have lots of anime stuff too, but I haven't watched an anime in about 15 years. I feel that we shouldn't judge people too harshly for what they're into. When you find something you're passionate about it often feels as though YOU were chosen, rather than you chose it. There's plenty of adults who're just as passionate as "Disney Adults" but it's over a predetermined, socially aligned and very common fandom. If a 24 year old man is obsessed with the UFC and trains in BJJ, his mania is "normal", if someone's 30 and obsessed with politics and always talking about it, that's not seen as "cringe". You can be into Dragon Ball at 40 and it's OKAY, but if it's Donald Duck then it's weird. Everyone has their own sensibilities and reasons for loving stuff. If they're just living their lives and it enriches them, why put a magnifying glass onto them and judge so harshly? "Normal" people, with "normal" interests often appear to be "normal" out of a fear of accepting themselves. I used to work in the Japanese idol industry, and sometimes people would show interest in that world, so I'd introduce them to it properly. They'd reject it out of discomfort of being judged, but not because they weren't interested. You'd be surprised how many of you have the potential to be a Disney adult, but you allow society to separate you from your heart.

Disney Cruises are actually phenomenal. The themes are tastefully done and not shoved down your throat at all. It can feel like any other cruise line if you want it to (except that the customer service is impeccable as you would expect from Disney). Plus they cater to all ages so if you’ve got kids, you can send them to the tween or teen clubs while you get up to whatever adult activities your heart desires.
