Morrison was heard to say he wanted to go towards more blues songs next album after France as he was always enraptured by the howling Wolf and other blues master. But he loved the Wolf, and Backdoor Man and this song were tributes to Chester Arthur Burnett. But as always , the French lost Morrison too as they have lost every important battle in history. His death was caused by the gypsy like menagerie of drugs and bohemian lifestyle of anything goes went off the hinges in places like Paris. For Morrison it wasn't the same safe environment of the states. So someone must have given him the wrong laced drug to kill an otherwise young man. Drugged out but young. For Morrison and Hendrix for that matter to die of drug overdoses as it is said, is so hard to believe. Hendrix was a professional drug taker as was Morrison. And neither shot needles so that's out. I think the they both ran into the wrong jealous individual that wanted what hey had and so the only next best thing was to do drugs with their idols and maybe cocktail it to the point of death. That's my theory anyway.
@OroborusFMA

Morrison was clearly on the verge of death in Paris, he had the symptoms of acute alcohol poisoning. That he might have died snorting his girlfriend's smack just got him off the planet a little sooner.
