I know craftsmen are always very critical of their own work but the finish, in my opinion, turned out very nice. It would have drawn my attention as a possible vintage arm if I had seen it on a shelf w/o knowing the actual story behind it. Nice job.

Flash rust with vinegar and then boil in water to drive off the oxygen. Then continue with bluing. I usually just flash rust and then treat with Phosphoric acid to convert the rust from iron oxide to iron phosphate for a matt black finish that hates to rust.

I have purchased a Military Heritage .58 cal double barreled flintlock pistol. Looks just like the one you have. My question to you is, when you drilled the vent holes, did you have a problem with the breech plug extending too high in the barrel? Did the breech plug actually cover part of the flash pan?

Nice pistol . That would be restricted here in communist Canada because of the barrel length. 18 " or more no license required. But a pellet gun with over 450 fps requires a license or a percussion gun any barrel length requires a license. Gun laws in Canada or USA make no sense 🤔
@Kev-N42000
10 ай бұрын
Newer percussion guns need a pal license here in Canada, but the older percussion guns don’t need license, even if it’s sawed off really short that’s fine,as long as it’s not breech loading and made before 1898, Newer flintlock long guns don’t need a license although a newer flintlock pistol would and possibly be restricted, but if made before 1898 it would be fine
@markfair7648

@@Kev-N42000 lol tell that to the rcmp. Being a gun owner in Canada is a tight rope walk at best Cop's can take your stuff for any reason they come up with. Been there done that. Make sure everything is in it's place and locked up tight. 10 years band for improper storage. If you make your own black powder don't tell anyone you are.
@Kev-N42000

@@markfair7648 making ur own black powder would be against the law yes, , and of course you need to have powder and guns stored properly… But all the guns I mentioned above are No pal required and can be had by anyone in Ontario Canada as long as the person is over the age of 18, and the only breech loading shotgun that would be non pal pre 1898 would be a pinfire shotgun, other than that ur stuck with Muzzleloaders
