This is an excellent guard for self-defence, though moving forward rather than backwards is best.

I'm very interested on this. Chin seems to be well protected, and I know you're not supposed to stand like this the whole fight. How is one to deal with right side attacks? Is there any fight that I can check out to improve my understanding of this guard?

Youre supposed to use it when ur opponent is coming in, use the basic "high guard"/ the normal guard and when u see ur opponent coming in u use this guard while moving back wards if u wish to be safer, and this guard is perfect for sweeps. Look up Danny bill, he was a master of this guard
@perrynixon6992

Looks dumb in theory, works great in reality. It's not a guard you're meant to hang out in for too long, just do it and transition into other techniques. If you only do the elbow part (with the lead arm, not the rear arm) and lunge in you can get some pretty interesting results, too. It deals with the straight right to the face you'd normally have to worry about doing something like that.

Why or in which situations is this better than having your right hand in guard kind of like in regular kickboxing position and left hand forward like in the video? Using this dracula guard your right hand is completely useless ofensively and the right jab is a great defensive technique too, which you can't use in this case.

Nope I think that’s it, everything has its trade offs and the Dracula guard isn’t meant to be held for very long. I find it’s most excellent to do with your freehand when stepping in for a leg sweep as it stops you from eating jabs on the way in. But I’ve never held it for more than a few seconds

You use it as a long guard so you want to try to stiff arm your opponent to disrupt their punches. Additionally, you use the top of your head to deflect the punches as opposed to taking them on the chin, which tend to do a lot more damage.
@NikolausJ
7 жыл бұрын
Sean Fagan How would you use this from southpaw? In orthodox you'd be stiff arming their power side, but in southpaw your stiff arm is on their jabbing side, does it make a difference?
@seanfagan
7 жыл бұрын
Yes it makes a big difference. When using long guard/dracula guard as a southpaw vs. orthodox, you're basically just using your lead hand as a range finder and your rear as both defense and an offensive threat. You'd want to try to circle out to your right as a southpaw so you have a better angle to attack/defend from

can you think of why this shouldn't be used in regular boxing? I use it against my roomate in sparring and it's incredibly effective as a guard but also as a platform for unorthodox and powerful attacks, like a backhand that turns last second to remain a legal strike, that hits so hard it's like I'm holding a cinder block
