This is a variation of the traditional lunge. With smaller strides, the movement forces the torso to keep upright and the knees to pass toes, requiring the trainee to have a good degree of lower half and lumbar and thoracic flexibility.
In this demonstration, @benperformancecoach loads up the movement with a safety bar, throwing in another curve ball to the loading parameters of this already difficult exercise.
