Im really enjoying your videos! Theyre great 👌 if you felt so inclined, I would'nt complain if you did species deep drives or care videos. More experiment videos would be awesome as well!

Very interesting, I assumed they were monogynous for some reason. How long does neoponera usually take to found? I really want to see them succeed now lol

The eggs take about 3 weeks to hatch into larvae, then it’s between 1-2 weeks to cocoon. Then another week for adult emergence. So about 2 months before adult workers on average. If you read the scientific publication I mentioned in the collecting trip video it discusses the polygyny aspect in detail.

This reminds me of when I caught lots of parasitic Formica queens and some needed live worker host

Heh not quite the same but I think parasitic introductions are a lot more nerve racking!

i tried 2 camponotus queens a few years ago. They started off really good. Then they had intense antenna boxing. Then I noticed one was being dragged by worker & missed an antenna. Then an egg she laid got immediately destroyed. Then she started missing legs. Then she was dismembered. It was a quick turn of events that happened once the colony had become reasonably established after a couple of months.

That’s because, with few exceptions, Camponotus are monogamous. The queens may tolerate each other at first, but their offspring will kill the other queen.
