It's fascinating that they think Josh having children at home is a compelling argument to send him home. His entire (repeated) problem is Josh abusing children, including his sisters. Those kids are a perfect reason to NOT allow him to go home until the kids are old enough to defend themselves from him. It also demonstrates that nobody in that family gets it. It makes it clear they're just enabling Josh and have been and that's how they got here.

Having worked with sex offenders, a family like the Duggars would actually be looked at as a risk factor. If family minimise or deny offending the court\probation would view them as unable to provide any protection for minors. By the same token, when appealing a sentence, they will state they are a “religious person” (personal belief) along with being a “pillar to the community” (volunteering, helping others). Being non religious does nothing to inherently lesser your worth, as being religious does not inherently make you a value to your community

There’s a serious logical disconnect in the minds of the people writing to the judge deciding Josh Duggar’s sentence. Just because someone volunteers from time to time or does the bare minimum to be a good family member doesn’t mean they’re a good person. He abused the most vulnerable members of his family, and was caught with actual literal CP. Just because he helped build a deck or went camping with his kids doesn’t erase that. He is a bad person who has repeatedly done bad things, hurt multiple people, and searched for CP. I simply can not fathom these people. Christian Fundamentalism has truly rotted their brains beyond belief. I hope and pray that his children are able to escape that environment and live their life without worrying about their father’s atrocities.

When i was about 11, my own brother got arrested for child pornography. My family kind of flipped out (fairly) but it's hard to understand. It is like a death of the amazing person you knew and i think maybe they are going through denial with those letters? I'm not exactly sure.

@@Lammington2 I don't think they considered his crimes at all when they decided to write about how great he is with his children. Right? Damning with faint praise, like, if that's the absolute best they could come up with, I'm wondering what kind of a jackass he is usually. Like, "he helped nailing planks into place once!" Perhaps they actually want him to be convicted, but they have to pretend for the church or Jimmimma-Bobber or something that they actually really tried.
@pansprayers

@@AnnekeOosterink the reality is, the bar for 'good behaviour' to outweigh this type of shit behaviour is set so LOW in the IBLP/Quiverfull community, I can tell you from direct experience that they genuinely think that those letters would get him - if not completely out of prison - a sentence in low security, under five years, and good behaviour after a year. You should have SEEN the mental gymnastics the community went through with my cousin (who's victim [well the one he married after grooming her from age 14] later shot him in the driveway). It's nauseating.
