When I was a child I lived next door to christy and mick dunne we lived in St John's Square in Blackpool in Cork City. When I was out playing I could here them christy playing the banjo and mick playing the fiddle they were such great musicians and two gentlemen fond memories of them playing out side the capitol cinema in Cork City

This video is an answer to the man who was on liveline on Irish national radio today and who asked the question "what has any traveller contributed to Irish society?" Educate yourself man and don't be shaming yourself in front of the nation - Most travellers are fine people, its the fact that they're different that Irish people can't handle. Learn something about the people you refer to and go and meet some of them - Pavee Point in Dublin is open to the public, check it out sometime.

This is also my family. Michael dunne was my great uncle. I have a fiddle at my home he made for his younger brother terry my grandad. One of my Pride and joy it is. Proud to be a dunne! Still listen to this music now and then. As my father frankie used to play it while he was alive and well. My kids dance to our family's tunes and I hope my grandchildren will too in time. I try to play now and then but I'm better with a piano and singing. My daughter seems to have a nack for the strings though 😁

At first I thought - ah a video about that nice big store in Dublin .....but then it turned out to be a lot more interesting - thanks. Our musical hertitage is made from many parts and the travellers had a big influence - love the sound of those uillean pipes.

This is my line of the family 😀. Pecker Dunne was my grannys first cousin and my great grandad was called Michael Dunne, he played the fiddle even though he was blind. Very proud of my family history. Edit: I just listened to the part where he mentioned the blind brothers. That was my great grandad 😁😁

My grandad was the man playing fiddle on the first b&w photographs shown though we never got to meet each other by many years. Quite moving to see him as part of this story. My mum’s name is ‘blossom’ Dunne and I’m proud to see and hear the musical Dunnes and distant relatives iv’e never met on her father’s side 😊💚

As a kid in the 60s on my way home from school in Cork city my bus stop (Nr. 2 to Blackrock) stopped exactly where they played. I loved listening to them and often missed the bus to hear more. Even on the cold days when we stood inside Roches at the window you could hear them. They usually had a shoe box for the money but sometimes a "pouch" attached to the banjo. Watching and listening to them encouraged me to take up the banjo. I would loved to have said "thanks" to them. They are a very distinct part of my growing up in Cork.

The most brilliant musicians Michael & Christie Dunne were a little similar to the blind boys of Alabama who were master singing their traditional music. It has been said that people would stand and listen to those 2 Dunne boys playing their music for hours, I would not find it a problem to stand/dance, sit down and listen to those very fine men for several days and I would not get tired on listening, watching and learning from those masters.

Dunne here, representing! Mickey's a great guy, sent me the pipes video and cd free, without being asked, and even paid the postage and would not accept anything in return. 2 thumbs up Mickey, you are a great guy!

My God this video popped up, the great fiddle players, we called them the blind mice down in limerick ,I saw them many places before hurling matches, they were real celebrities, the only musicians playing on the streets, they made our day, they're gone now I'd say, I never knew their age, Thanks to the great brothers. Up limerick/ Clare.
