Very informative and entertaining. Richard II really sounds like England's version of Nero, he got power at a young age and surrounded by folks with their own agenda, he's totally out of his depth and makes mistakes after mistakes until he's overthrown. In the end he became the last of his dynasty, just like Nero was the last of the Julio-Claudian emperors.

Thank you ladies, really interesting. In a way it started the wars of the roses. Would I be right in thinking that? 🙏🙏👵🇦🇺

To a point. There's a lot of spot fires, so to speak, regarding the Wars, but the usurpation of the direct line to the throne (i.e. Richard) by a junior branch definitely opened a can of worms. The line of succession was still not a 'set thing', so who was next really depended on a number of factors. The Lancastrians were accepted largely based on strength and direct male-line, but once you lose strength and the male-line starts wobbling, you start getting less acceptance and then, open season, which is what happened when the Yorks gained a double claim and sniffed weakness. If Henry V had lived longer, had more kids, things very much could have been different because Mad King Henry VI would have had brothers to keep order instead of relying on favourites and his hated French wife. If Henry V's brothers actually bothered to have kids, again, things could have been different, as a cousin either could have kept the reign stable, or been heir, or usurped it instead of the Yorks. Richard II being removed definitely stacked the tinder box, but several other factors set it aflame, and any number of "what ifs" could have contained it all.
