I remember seeing this as a youngster at the local picture show. Friday nights was B movie night. You got to see two lousy films for 25 cents. Seeing the lady run up to the robot and get killed and then the dead come back to life with ping pong ball eyes scared the pants off me!

I avoided this for so many years because the title sounded like a cheapo 1950's American Sci-fi. It was in fact a cheapo 1960's British Sci-fi. Not half bad to be honest. Actually a personal favourite. I'd definitely recommend this to 1960's British Sci-fi fans. Yeah, well. I had to narrow the fan base down obviously. It won't appeal to everyone.

Quite similar in some ways to the earlier TARGET EARTH, with humanoid robots done in the visual spirit of THE MAN FROM PLANET X. I believe some of the opening shots were taken from VILLAGE OF THE DAMNED (maybe). Some of the music has a unique quality (the beginning mostly), with an unusual, faint echoed-feeling--ie the music being played in a very large chamber. A couple more robots visible all in one shot, and a more involved, or unique ending would've helped. Some very effective sequences, and, generally, well-acted.

Footage of airplane nosediving into the ground in the beginning was used first in 1960 Village of the Damned. This was made in '64 but it has more of a mid-50's feel to it.

Liked it but these brits ripped of Target Earth. :) Boy, you didn't need a lot of special effects to do a SF movie in those days. Get a couple of robot costumes and some white contacts for the zombie eyes and you were in business. I wish amateurs would make some low budget SF movies like these using digital technology. I've watched all the original ones mostly but film school students could chuck one out in no time using digital techniques. Get on it amateurs, and don't forget the 50s wardrobe and to render it in both color and black and white. Ha Ha.

There's a surprising number of train derailment footage done with real steam trains that were going to be retired anyway. They even had two trains collide head on with each other in front on an audience, once. The exploding boilers killed many of the audience. Kind of a bad idea, all told.
