Yeah, learn to pronounce it incorrectly first time round so you have to relearn in order to speak correctly. “Koreans will understand it” is NOT good advice.
@TheYellowK-popgirl
Жыл бұрын
@@UkOutreachyes it is…. I’ve met many Americans who don’t pronounce Spanish words flawlessly but you understand and that’s ok. You don’t have to speak perfectly it’s ok to start learning and then after develop the accent and pronounciatians. The point of learning a language is so to talk to others and understand it so as long as they understand what your saying there is nothing wrong with it.
@Quazir86

@@UkOutreach imagine living in europe when you have tourist everywhere, in France you can hear, like for example, at a castle last time, we had One german couple, 4 chinese girls, and 1 portuguese with his italian girlfriend, and they were all speaking in French, i understood everything, even with the accent, i didn't do like some people from Paris do like, "no it's pronounce that way" or talk to them in english, because i understood, One of the Chinese girls tho asked me if she was understandable, and i helped her with the pronounciation of the NAME of the Castle. She was so happy, so as i ! So yeah 'Koreans will understand it" is a good Advice, because if the pronounciation is CLOSE enough, you understand. And sometimes it's ok to do the effort, and not being disrespectful to the learners On the other way, in chinese, it will not work :s

You cannot expect a first time learner to pronounce something perfectly. I understand what you're trying to say, but its still nice to get some encouragement as a first time learner. and all the fine tuning can come later when you have a better understanding of the language, at the beginning mistakes are inevitable.

Well, I'm totally disillusioned. My Korean immigrant wife often told me how simple Hangul was. That, according to her, was because all you needed to do was pronounce the letters together and you were speaking Korean. But you have let me know there are many exceptions. You have no idea how I regret not taking advantage of her, and all our Korean friends and interactions, to learn more Korean. She has passed away and I am old, but how grateful I am for our many years of marriage. Now I very much enjoy seeing Korean K-pop series and videos that remind me of our good times. You have such incredibly beautiful eyes too.

Lucky man. I had a beautiful, smart Korean girlfriend and while it ended 4 years ago she's always in my thoughts. She left Canada to pursue her own path.

@@takealeftatthelight5284 I keep in touch infrequently, she is very independent and can make her own path. I think she knows how I feel. I've been very transparent. At the end of the day I need to let go of the one I love in order to live my own life. If one day she chooses to initiate a return I'll still be here. Like the OP said, I am also grateful for what was and for the lessons she taught me. Truly a blessing.
